Marvellous news, crossed fingers for a successful outcome to the op.
Told he was terminally ill and now cured! Extraordinary and excellent news.

Marvellous news, crossed fingers for a successful outcome to the op.
That’s fantastic - a rare outcome for pancreatic cancer. Hope he has a swift recovery from surgery.
Delighted to read this, mainly for the obvious reason but also because I was faintly grossed out by Wilko's description of the tumour - he described it as being so big that his guitar rocked against it - during his interview with Jonnie Walker on R2 on Saturday.
Hope he hasn't been given false hope; he said he was immune to that. But he said that his doctors were surprised he was still with us and were "going to take another look at it" so I was curious to see if there'd be a development like this.
Fantastic news!!!
WOWSER!!
I thought it was supposed to have been definitely terminal
I'm over the moon that he's going to come through it!!
John
Great news! Fingers crossed that this is successful.
F.T.F.A.
A friend of mine - who is both a photographer and a cancer doctor - became curious as to why I wasn't dead. And why I wasn't even sick
I must say though that it's a shame it wasn't disagnosed correctly in the first place. I would assume that if it had been removed a year ago, the chances of surviving it would have been a lot better.
I don't think diagnosis was the issue. My guess - and that is all it is - is that, to cut a long story short, it's to do with specialist hospital (Addenbrookes) vs non-specialist, differing advice as to outcomes, differing estimates of risk etc.
The surgery discussed in the article is not new but is complex and best carried out in national centres where they do a lot of it.
...or perhaps that the simple experience that they've found it to be less aggressive than first anticipated made the surgery option prognosis a worthwhile "bet".
Don't forget he rejected being treated with chemo.
And this particular surgical treatment is apparently so new, it doesn't have a name.
A year is both a long time and a short one in terms of medical advancement.
Anyway, good luck to him, from the interview, it can hardly be assumed he's "cured" as per thread title. Fingers crossed he survives, recovers & has a long life.
Sounds like he's had a Whipple's procedure.
I wish him well but this certainly isn't a cure. Last time I looked the 5 year survival rate was something like 10-15% versus 2% for inoperable tumours. It offers hope but not that much more, sadly.
Fingers crossed he comes through OK. I was genuinely sad I missed him on his last tour. Although I know he's doing the odd gig here and there. So I hope to get to see him sometime soon.
To quote - or at least paraphrase him - he hopes his farewell tour ends up becoming the longest ever...
Amen to that.
Great news.
I thought pancreatic cancer was a surefire killer.
Rock on Wilko!
Cheers,
Neil.
I'm no oncologist, but surely having a football sized tumour removed has got to give you a better chance than leaving it in situ?
Amen indeed.
I'm currently browsing TZ while listening to "As it happens". Lee Brilleaux's vocals, Wilko's choppy guitar.........
A great band. If they didn't have "musical differences" they could have been much, much more successful. But I suppose they would have had to become more "corporate". And I can't imagine that happening.
I listened to an interview with Wilko last week. He may be as mad as a box of frogs, but he's a giant of a man. I do hope that he can recover. The world would be a poorer place without him.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
So chuffed.his playing has provided me with real intense musical memories. Really hope OP runs smoothly.
