As often the case with me I have gone and bought another impulse watch. Usually when buying, its a watch I have looked at in the past but this time it was a complete impulse and it is a watch I know less than nothing about!
My plan was to sell up my watch collection (or the majority of) and buy something like a Moser but I feel that I am now addicted to buying and have done it again.
Anyway I have ended up buying a Patek Phillipe Ellipse (3548). Im not sure I even like the watch! I have just been sucked in by the PP brand.
Whats worse is my wife to be said that I cant buy another watch without one going the other way and she opened the package.
Anyway, because Im not overly sold on the watch I was wondering if anyone could advise me on getting it cleaned up, the dial has marks on it, is this repairable. Are there any nice straps for this watch.
I havent seen the watch in person yet, just a picture message from the missus with the message "what is this?!"

Quick, someone post a face palm meme!
Are you for real?
PP + damaged dial = expensive trip to PP to straighten it out or some botchered job that will greatly affect the value of the watch.
"repair"? Unless it is lint or dust: not a chance, at least not in such a way that you won't notice.
Straps: PP have nice ones. Around 300 Euro's, I believe.

This can't be serious?????
Putting a Patek in for service to remove scratches will be a few grand and a few months away while PP take a look........

Made my day, if I had done this no way in hell would anyone else know about it. Enjoy your evening at home.
Picture sent by the wife to be (in 4 weeks)
Excuse her photography skills, no doubt taken on her phone.
Best thread ever :)
Can I ask if the vino was in free flow at time of purchase?
Hope it turns out okay and the wife to be doesn't take it as an omen of your daftness :D
Drunk eBay was my immediate thought.
Still, could have been worse... I offer up: A dignified taxidermy squirrel riding a velveteen pony

That's an absolutely perfect watch, if:
you wear a maroon velvet dinner suit with lapels out to your shoulders, a lemon yellow frilly shirt, a comedy cummerbund, a bow tie as big as a Lancaster's propellor & hang off a mike stand, telling mother-in-law jokes at Batley Variety Club. (It's called the Frontier Club now, I think.)
Otherwise:
it's pretty dated & not one of their best.
Here's my "facepalm" contribution...
Very meh.
But you must like it some bit if you bought it. I would ignore this thread and try bond with it!
Where's that thread on buyers remorse?!
If you buy a PP watch only based on a picture then you really have a buying problem and you should be placed under guardianship.
I will bookmark this thread for its broad selection of facepalms. Thanks to the OP.
There is only one option really - tell your wife to be that you picked something up as a little wedding gift for her, but if she doesn't like it you can take it back. I have a horrible feeling it may fit her perfectly though. I hope for your sake that she doesn't fancy the gold mesh bracelet that goes with it. On the plus side, what a generous man you are...

^^ is your name Ben Dover by any chance?
Seeing as you've already said you don't like it I won't feel too guilty saying that's one ugly/dated watch for £2k. What on earth were you thinking if you're not even sold on the watch?!?
Let's not forget the WC facepalm:
Outstanding thread
I spent £300 on a new Seiko a while back and felt guilty about the additional £60 customs charge. This puts it into perspective
Sorry OP, regardless of the name on the dial I think that it looks awful
Just my opinion - we all have different tastes
What's the big deal? It's his money and he spends it how he chooses. I think its amusing that people do things on impulse and can have a bit of fun in life. Worst that happens is he loses a few hundred quid, you wanna tell me that's never happened to most of us along the way?
lighten up folks!
its an interesting design and not something you will see on too many other wrists.
We learn two things here:-
1./ Two thousand pounds buys an epically crap Patek Phillippe.
2./ Your life has been pointless and wasted unless you own taxidermy that depicts vermin performing human activities.
It looks like its had a hard life to be honest.
Not one I'm looking forward to seeing on SC...
You know what?
A different strap and a bit of a wipe over and that will look classy.
It's got clean lines and is understated, which works well for a dress watch.
While it's not going to be everyone's taste, it's a watch that can be appreciated.
Whack it on a NATO. Voila, it's a tool watch.
