Cream dial is nice. What's the lume like?
In keeping with the Explorer theme of my small collection I thought that I would try an Alpha from Homage Watches
Things didnt get off to a good start when the first one arrived. It wouldnt run consistently and felt as rough as anything when winding. I contacted the seller and he sent me a new one - refunding the postage for the return of the faulty watch. I guess that quality might be a bit variable but from a seller like this who offers such good service then thats not too much of a problem
The replacement arrived, winds smoothly and runs absolutely fine
After removing a link it fits nicely on my 6.75 wrist
I love the look of the cream dial and the general quality, including bracelet is outstanding for the price
To my surprise, that looks quite nice.
How would you describe the fit and finish? Which watch would be comparable in general quality? E.g. would the Alpha feel noticably lower build quality than, say, a Seiko Monster?
Some sharp edges here and there such as end of lugs - however, I think the general finish is very good. Not up to the standard of a Seiko though and in the war of the clones the Zeno Ex wins hands down (mind you one of these will cost you x5 times as much)
Looks good. I've successfully resisted the black dial version (and a Zeno Zex for that matter) on the basis that it's money saved to put towards a 114270. I'm so far off the 3k I need I'm sure I might cave in for an Alpha.
If I am of the same of frame of mind in 5 years time when (if all goes to plan) I retire then I will buy a Rolex Ex to celebrate
In the meantime then this kind of thing will keep me amused
The Zeno takes some beating though
Looks nice, thanks for posting
Another Exp obsessive here. I've tried Eddie's Everest, which was sadly too large for me. A MKII Vantage, which I didn't take to for a number of illogical reasons and a cheapie Theta, which was okay for £15.
The Alpha is a great, fun watch, although it's slightly too small for me. I've got a significant birthday rapidly approaching and am debating whether to celebrate with a 214270. Rob's (AIDM) shots really don't help!
Did you purchase from homage-watches-uk on eBay? I bought my black dial from them and they were a pleasure to deal with.

I too bought an Everest and found it too large. Shame as its a great watch and amazing value.
Yes, I bought the Alpha from homage watches uk - amazingly polite and efficient service
The Alpha joins my Zeno in the watchbox
And my Seiko SNXS79K with a Yokobies dial - which will look much better on its bracelet and the new Explorer style hands that Duncan is fitting for me
Indeed, that SNXS79K is definitely going to look the business, once Duncan's worked his magic.
Please post up the pics on it's return.
Cheers

The Alpha's a good looking watch. Congratulations.
I Had the Explorer 2 version white face, really good value for money beater.
Sold it on now for an Everest which is one of my fav,s
Enjoy
Have to say that I am taken with the cream dial too. Would look great on an ostrich type strap.

Love that Seiko, which I think is my favourite of the three. Thanks for posting the pics.

The Alpha looks great value, i love the 5 transformation but the Zeno is still my favourite!
Enjoy :)
I've got one of these in black and it's one of my favourites but I've got a problem with the winder.. Perhaps when I get some serious watch money together I'll look for a Rolex. I've also got the GMT version which is a belter IMHO.

This is one of the reasons why I need to stop visiting this site. Just visited Alpha's web site and bought a white-dial version.
Damn you, OP. ;-)))

Two weeks down the line Ian, is the Alpha flipped already?
