What did you do for your 50 birthday

I got the big 50 in January and am trying to think of something to do on the night/weekend. A week in Janacua has been booked for the following week and I've organised something for me and my boys already.

Theatre? Trip to Old Trafford (I can get tickets)? Weekend away with my lovely wife? Meal out with friends. Those are my choices so far but am open to suggestions.

    Thanks

    Andy

My wife suggested that we go away for the weekend - anywhere I liked

I chose Dungeness - though we had to stay in Hythe as this was the nearest hotel

I opened my presents (there were 50 of them) at the hotel and then we drove to the beech, climbed the lighthouse, wandered among the wooden shacks and had a look at Derek Jarmans garden. It was wet, windy and a little chilly but I loved it

I went to the Kinema-in-the-Woods and spent the night caravanning at The Ebrington Arms, Kirkby-on-Bain.
    I know how to live.

Wondered what had happened to those 50 years because they flew by.

The wife took me to Budapest.

I bought her a very expensive handbag and a new car.

Not sure I got a good deal, however she has put up with me for 28 years now.

We had a large party in a villa in the Tuscan countryside. The party was also for three more friends turning fifty, so it was a very large event with many friends (more than a hundred). Many of us slept there for two days, the catering for the night lasted for the second day too :-)

There is nothing better than a celebration with old friends.

Had debauched sex and dinner with the family - with hindsight it would have been better to have two dos.

Entered my first ever bike race. It was a cyclocross race and I came last in my category but even though I was exhausted it was the most fun thing I had done in years.

I felt just like a big kid again!

I still have some years left to plan mine but I'm struggling to beat the coke and hookers or shooting pheasant option...

I haven't made plans yet, seeing as I can't picture what I'll be doing with myself by then. I'll come back and let you know though.

Real ale and curry in excess, with family and close friends. Luckily a green light on watch purchases, and my words of wisdom would be to spread celebrations over months if poss.

Had a short week in Lanzarote with the wife which was nice but also felt very depressed as work wise at 50 years of age I find myself in a poor situation.

Took voluntary redundancy and early retirement, long weekend in Venice and a few parties with various sets of friends. Bummed around for a few months until told to find work by the wife.

Not quite there yet. The missus keeps asking what exotic foreign holiday I'd like to go on to celebrate.

My response is always to go camping in on the banks of the sea loch at Ullapool, and eat locally caught fish which I've poached on our own stove by the shore, and the next day to head off to Durness.

This clearly isn't the right answer, so the missus keeps asking.

My 50th fell on a Sunday so we took over a lovely pub I know and invited friends and family to a Sunday roast! It's always a double celebration as my daughter was born on my 30th birthday.
A week later my missus booked us on our first cruise.

Went to Tobago, as it was always my wish to spend it quietly on a beautiful, sandy, palm fringed beach where no-one knew us!

I have a few years to go, but I'm looking forward to my 50th. I love celebrating my birthday and have had some big parties, but for 50, I've started a wine collection with wines that should be in their prime in 2019 and 2020. I plan to have at least 52 exceptional bottles by then so that I can have at least one per week. I have a decent cellar of things to drink now and into the future, but the ones set aside should be a great mix -- Burgundies, Bordeauxs, German and Alsatian Rieslings, Sauternes, Ports, Barolos and some amazing new world wines. I can't wait to start into them!

My wife took me for a long weekend in Manhattan. It's all pretty arbitrary though; what's special about 50, when compared to 49 or 51?

I also came to the conclusion that it was probably about the right time to stop trying to flirt with women in their thirties (and younger).

It passed by almost unnoticed. I was nursing my pop. Little did I know that 364 days later he would pass away. My 51st was nothing special either!

Good point hogthrob. I don't subscribe to the whole Big Birthday thing. I'm a day older, not a year older, hence my low-key approach.

Just turned 40 and went with my nieces, nephews and godchildren to ther Natural History Museum and bored them all with dinosaur talk :)

For my 50th... we'll have 9 year old child by then which is a terrifying thought. At least we can leave her with someone while we go and do something good though ;)

I felt entitled to make a big deal of my 50th after being told to get my affairs in order at the age of 24...

Went for a hair cut & shave then lunch out. My ex had booked a suprise party for me in the evening, she also booked me a stripper from Middlesborough! Really bazaar? Did not go down that well with my daughters or my old Mum. Still was one of the nicer things she did in our marriage.

Went for the weekend to Crickhowell with some friends, on my birthday in January. Climbed up Pen Y Fan via the saddle route on a beautiful day with the snow and ice on the ground, went at least a valley too far on the way down(!), and settled for a lovely meal and a few beers in the Bear Hotel in the evening! Perfect!

    50th

Her indoors took me on a surprise holiday to Egypt. The weekend before we went she also took me on a weekend trip to Stratford where I picked up an SE Panerai for my birthday, needless to say I won't be trading her in anytime soon!
