The ultimate one to own is the one you love the most. Unfortunately that one does nothing for me.

End the thread, that looks the business.
My Hercules is still my favorite.
A navitimer would be the ultimate Breitling IMO. The current one with the B01 movement would be my choice. I do like the OP's CA. I prefer the "stenciled" numbers on my Avenger Skyland. If only one could have the CA with the Skyland dial...
Navitimer A13322, owned 2-3 in the past few years.
I've got a white dial Super Avenger, which I no longer wear as it is far too large, but it is still my favourite Breitling when I look at the current line up in the shops, and I don't like what they have done with the Super Avenger 2,
I like the transocean chrono
Well I chose this one a few years back:
Still very happy with it as a daily wearer.
While I toy with other Breitlings, this is still my favourite. Although I do have a hankering for a Navitimer.
That's what I thought... And I didn't see any diamonds on it anywhere either.
The Navitimer is the classic Breitling to many, followed closely by the Chronomat. And the B1, or one of the Aerospaces. Then there's the Emergency, and of the new Transocean has become very popular although the look is not especially Breitling-esque.
Not many people like the Superocean diver, but I do. Functionally superior to and with better specification than any equivalent name-brand diver out there, with only the tweaked ETA 2824 to hold back the movement snobs.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
i like almost all breitlings and own a version of what i would consider to be each of their best offerings:
best ana-digi: B1
best diver: Avenger seawolf
best navitimer: world (although i would concede a 01 is a "better" watch)
best emergency: mission (although mine is due a trip back to breitling)
and ive got a couple of others too.
really fancy something breitling made from gold though. shame im too much of a pauper.
Seawolf probably.
But I'll be keeping my limited edition super ocean gmt :)
For most Breitling fans it would probably be a Chrono.
It's just a matter of time...
A Navitimer is the probably the only Breitling I'd change mine for, though I'm sure my one is not to many people's taste (especially at 46mm). Still absolutely love it though.
Though this is the proper answer.Originally Posted by coldwarkid

sure the Navitimer is an iconic watch but look at the thing, its bloody ugly!
and quite hard to find one that isnt a styling disaster to one degree or another.
A superocean heritage 46 would be my pick.
The "ultimate" Breitling is surely done to personal taste?
The most iconic Breitling is unquestionably the Navitimer through its many guises, for me, even though i don't have one, it would be the 806.
I had a ColtSuperocean professional in the nineties black charcoal dial, lovely watch just a bit too heavy for me.I always hankered after a Chronomat all stainless steel model.
I enjoyed my new navitimer and my Seawolf....
but I have come to realise that for me, old school is cool.....
This is my watch - but not my pic - my favourite Breitling, and one of 100. I like the GMT 24hrs around the rehaut and not on the dial lie the other GMT Breitlings. - although I do also like the Seawolf above, I am not much of a fan of the larger Chronos.
It's just a matter of time...
I have owned some beauties, a couple of 806s, and 809 and many modern chronographs, none of them stay for long though :(
I think when the TransOcean chrono with the in-house BR-01 movement start getting to an acceptable level pre-owned, one might come my way and will hopefully stay.
The only working Breitling I have right now is a 1998 SuperOcean 1000m with blue dial. It was my first real watch and my only watch for many years. Wouldn't be my first choice of Breitling nowadays but it's not worth getting it serviced and tidied as it's probably worth less than the cost to do it up!!
I want a Breitling, they just don't make the one I want
Watchfinder routinely knocks these out for £1,500 or so, with relatively little price difference between early non-Chronometer and the later, 1,500m rated chronometers. That suggest a trade price of £750 or so. Privately you might get more especially if you have the box, etc, but like cars, Breitling's "full service" option at £300-odd is only properly worth it for an old (but not vintage) watch if you intend to keep it. In which case, it's either that or the depreciation on a new one - your choice ;).
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
I loved my Superocean Heritage, nice and plain, not busy at all.
But my god I really need to stop flipping watches that I actually really like - grrrr!!
I've been through many Breitlings, and settled on the ultimate with my latest purchase:
Not my picture, must get round to a new arrival thread at some point...
It's my ultimate because it's the latest incarnation of the legendary Navitimer, with the improvement of an in-house movement, the addition of a lengthy power reserve at 70+hrs, and losing the infuriating non quick set date change of old, with an instantaneous adjustment instead
The ultimate Breitling has to be a Navitimer. The in-house caliber B01 Navitimer is the "best" Navitimer but for me the ultimate one is the Navitimer Heritage.
I like that the rehaut colour matches the dial colour. The flyback function is one of the most useful. I think the printed logo looks a lot better than the applied one and i don't like the date wheel font on the B01.
Had it twice, flipped it twice...Im a double idiot
The original 40mm Blackbird (in my case I'd like it with a UTC module) is the best proportioned and not blingy watch they have made. IMHO
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Didn't care too much about the Blackbird, but Frank's (helderberg on TimeZone and WUS) pictures won me over. Really like the black eyed blue version he presents so beautifully. This is one of Franks pics:
