Tip - Royal Mail Special Delivery

Just a tip that I have found helpful, my apologies if it is already widely known:

The Royal Mail Track and Trace service has recently changed such that it only presents any information for your parcel once it is 'out for delivery' to its final destination. So, if you routinely use www.royalmail.com/track-trace (as I have been doing) you will simply get a message saying something along the lines of 'Sorry there is no data available for this tracking reference' which leaves you wondering if your parcel has even been logged and made it out of your local post office.

BUT, despite that unhelpful message, there IS data available for your parcel. Go to www.royalmail.com/trackdetails instead and it will give you the full breakdown of progress along the route, which at least gives you some assurance that your parcel is registered in the system and on its way.

I hope this is helpful to at least some of you (or at least the ones that suffer from delivery anxiety like I do).

Thanks - it even works with items sent to the UK from Europe - although only up
to receipt by Heathrow LDC - but better than the other one!!

An item I sent recorded on the 17th is apparently still being processed for delivery at the office I sent it from. A week later, I'd prefer it was 400 miles away.

    Getting twitchy? Me? No...

Thanks, great tip. It has really annoyed me that you can't get any info from RM so I've stored this for future use!

  17. #17
I used the first one you linked just last week and didn't find the info. from Royal Mail particularly helpful, so I for one will says thanks for posting this.

It was only recently that I discovered that the grey self sealing RMSD bags were free from post offices.

Thanks for the tip, I can rest easier knowing my parcel is on it's way.
Wonder why they've taken this data off the other pages?

Thanks for this - I've been fretting over a parcel on route from the USA. I even phoned RM on Monday and was told no record of it coming into the country (according to USPS it left the Chicago hub on 1st May).
Now on this I see it is now in Edinburgh. Top tip !!!!

Thanks for the tip. I used this yesterday/today to track an RMSD package which should have arrived by 13:00 yesterday. It was interesting (and frustrating) to see how the RM muppets sent it from one sorting office to another (the wrong one) and back again a couple of times before it finally made it to me.

    Thanks for the tip!

I have come across that rather worrying error message a couple of times and now I know why!

Thank you very much. I've been trying to track an item since last week to no avail. This is what it says when I put the tracking code into the tracker in the OP link

ARE YOU ACTUALLY COVERED BY RMSD??

    Thanks.
What is the best way to send a watch? I've used RMSD before and had no problems, but I remember reading the T's & C's - finding out I wasn't actually covered!

    :-)

This is indeed useful, but don't rely on it too much. This parcel was "Delivered" at 11:49 and then "Undelivered" at 12:43!

Such linking would be 'Customer Friendly' Jase, total anathema to present day Royal Mail.

Well, my latest acquisition has vanished somewhere...

It's reported as "DESPATCHABLE TOJUBILEE MAIL CENTRE" since 4/6 at 20:07, but it was a RMSD Next day delivery so I think I can safely assume some scrote's wearing it now...

Tip - Royal Mail Special Delivery

another good tip is to use app called parcel by ivan pavlov, pretty sure its on android also it also shows this information and i use it for both outbound and inbound packages across multiple couriers

handy thing is when your in ebay and some other apps and sites when you then go into the app it pulls through the tracking number then you add it to your list to be tracked or you can scan it or manually input it:)

Another vote for the Parcel app (I have it on IOS) - in the past it has told me when an Airsure parcel was in the local collection point (Dry Cleaners opposite) - the miscreant who was supposed to deliver it didn't leave a card and nothing showed on the tracking website.

Well, despite never having been delivered, I received positive feedback on the item. I love Royal Mail.
