    Restaurant recommendations in York

We are here for the weekend and looking for a couple of places to dine out for lunch and dinner. Last night was spent at Oxo's which we enjoyed but any others to share...

As would any places to visit. Off to the Jorvik Viking Centre shortly.

I like 31 Castlegate. Its a small establishment in a quirky building with a nice atmosphere. English cuisine ( best sticky toffee pudding I've had) won't break the bank and has some local ales (can't comment on the wine list as I've not looked at it). Its near the Hilton hotel next to the tower.

Railway museum. If you fancy a pint The Bluebell on Fossgate, and/or the Minster Inn on Marygate.

The blue bicycle is one of my favourites. Loads of character, good food and excellent service :)

It used to a brothel many moons ago ;)

    I would recommend:

    Indian: Mumbai Lounge, Fossgate
Chinese: Red Chilli, George Hudson St
    Italian: Piccolino's, Ouse Bridge
Bit of everything: Cosmo, Ouse Bridge

    Lunch: Mannion's, Blake St

    Hope that helps!

My wifey will no doubt be upset at giving away our favourite place.

    Lucia's.

    Meditteranian/italian

only downside is that they don't accept bookings.

    Enjoy

Best Italian, though you may struggle without booking far in advance.

Wolfgangs or Lugers for steak, four seasons is nice but pricey.

Your best bet is to walk down Fossgate and have a look at a few menus.

As Alex said Blue Bicyle is good, also Ambiente Tapas Restaurant has opened next door and that looks good. Mumbai Loung is on the same street and that's the best Indian in Town and the best Thai - Khao San Road is also down there and go in to The Hop for a pint.

Rustique is good value. Jamie Oliver's and the Star in the City are both lovely buildings but hit and miss food wise.

Knowing the kind of guy alexaff is, we did just that, walked down Fossgate and stepped into blue bicycle however they were full so stopped next door in the tapas restaurant which is where I type the reply. Good meal and would recommend it.

Thanks again for the advice. We will use it again for lunch tomorrow before heading back.

Thank you for the tapas recommendation, my wife loves tapas and not been to the one mentioned.

All the suggestions here sound good in fact, might nip up for lunch!!

Have a great time in York, check out some of the pubs down alleyways, some great finds.
