Thread: I will try the correct forum! Tempur mattress

  1. #1

I will try the correct forum! Tempur mattress

After realising that my old mattress had seen better days i decided to go for a new tempur mattress, we went for the cloud deluxe 27 with matching pillows (ouch) i thought it was worrh spending out for a good nights sleep

It was delivered yesterday and first impressions were great and i dropped off to sleep in wonderful comfort, i had no hot flushes in the night which i was worried about but waking up this morning i feel very achy

I am assuming it will take some getting used to? I was wondering if anyone had similar experience when they moved over to memory foam?

Basically the links with NASA means that this is the closest i will ever get to owning a speedmaster lol

I got a Tempur bed six or seven years ago. Had no problems adapting to it. A few weeks after I had gotten the bed, I went for the Tempur pillow as well. That gave me some pains in the first week, but I trusted it would pass, as I was told, and stuck to it. After the first week all aches were gone and now conventional pillows and beds feel uncomfortable. I love Tempur.

We only last week got a kingsize version of one of these: http://www.mattressonline.co.uk/Prod...Mattress-P1325

Great mattress and good price too.

I've had the Tempur original mattress and pillows for about 9 months now and without doubt it's probably the best money I have ever spent.

When I go to bed I get comfortable virtually straight away and I wake up when the alarm clock goes off without remembering nothing of the night. I was constantly waking with my old mattress and used to wake up with a stiff back.

One drawback is that I do wake up sometimes a bit achy, but not as bad as I used to. I would never now go back to a normal mattress.

Thankyou for the replies, i think i needed reassurance as it was such a big expenditure :)

Please no more links to much cheaper alternatives though (only joking)

    Hopefully the aches will pass

As someone else has said, the pillows do take a bit of getting used to especially if you are used to 2 conventional pillows. For me it felt like my head was crooked too far back.....but it soon passes.

We have a Cloud 27 and matching pillows (bought 18 months ago) - best money I have ever spent on anything TBH.

Very comfortable and as already said, other beds feel very 'meh' to us now.

+1 on memory foam. My wife and I invested in a memory foam (not Tempur, but same quality) mattress over 10 years ago. It took a few days to get used to but I would never go back.

There is one disadvantage though. We both travel a lot with work and rarely find a hotel mattress that gives us the same comfort!

    +2 to memory foam.

We bought a memory foam mattress about 12 years ago and it is still perfect. All the niggling little aches and pains that we woke up with on the old mattress are now history.

Ours was a German make that was used in their hospitals and the estimated life is at least 30 years.

    I certainly recommend them.

Tempur are overpriced, or have an inflated profit margin, if you prefer.
You'll get all the same benefits from an Ergoflex mattress – but in general, the right memory foam mattress will feel better than a traditional sprung (pocket or open coil) mattress.
Everything you need to know and understand about what to look for in a viscoelastic mattress is on Ergoflex's site.
The only thing Tempur have done, is increase density to 100 kg/m3, which contrary to what might be considered, is softer than lower density foam – so not all that useful for the heavier person(s).

+1 on memory foam mattresses. We got them for the children after we realised how good they are.

However I am of the opinion it's best to get them properly aired before sleeping on them. We left ours in the spare room for a couple of weeks before using.

The heat is the complaint I hear most often about the Tempur mattresses. I considered one last year when the time came for a new bed but ended up with a Vi-Spring. We all have different tastes.

Another very happy Tempur user here. We have the mattress and I also have the classic pillow. Was told it would take some time to get used to them, but we both slept amazingly well from the first night, and every night since.

The pillow resolved years of neck ache instantly. I even take my pillow with me when we visit people.

They are expensive but I would happily pay that amount every year to ensure such a wonderful sleeping experience. Great choice :)

Bought the Ergoflex 6 years ago, so the above still stands, as far as my experience is concerned – but it's okay to have a difference of opinion.

Exactly - did my research and the Ergofllex is not the same, nor did I feel it was equivalent.

My wife thinks our Tempur is great, I think it is OK.

We do both find it hot, but went down a bit with the duvet togs and it is now fine.

Nice timing on this thread as we are looking for a new bed at the moment. I would love to say we broke the other one but after 18 years of marriage and 3 kids it is more likely the kids bouncing on it than us:)

    Some questions please:

Is there a trial period with any of these foam mattress manufacturers? If so, how long? As others have said the outlay is significant and I want to be sure they work for me (I'm heavy, she's not)
Do or can you use the pillows like conventional ones? I tend to put my arm under mine when sleeping and the memory ones strike me as being hard.
Anyone tried a combi mattress ie. spring + foam?

    Thanks

    Ian

I do, I'm also an arm under the pillow guy. I've had no problem there. I tried to find the kind of pillow I have, but didn't find it in the current line-up. The Sonata pillow looks to be the closest equivalent.

The foam does soften up a little over the years. Ours hasn't lost its support, but it adapts more quickly.

And whilst we're on the topic, where is the most cost effective place to buy the Tempur?

I dont know if it was a good price or not (certainly better than online sale price) but picked up a cloud deluxe 27 king size mattress and 2 cloud pillows for £1450 at a Tempur outlet at Street (Clarks village)

That doesn't sound bad given where i am in research, certainly better than online, similar I think to a tempur outlet i went into at the start of convincing the wife a while ago!!!!! Thanks.

For anyone that hasn't tried one its worthwhile going somewhere that has the Tempur Pod for their demo and has the range of mattresses. We spent several hours last week trying them, and several pocket spring mattresses and the Octaspring mattresses. In the end we came down to deciding between a 2800 pocket spring and memory foam topped Silentnight mattress and the firm one of the Octaspring range. The Silentnight mattress won in the end for us, it was my favourite by a clear margin but we both would have been happy with the Octaspring product as well albeit a little more expensive. Wifey really didn't like the sinking in feeling of the Tempur mattresses, there not for everyone.

I agree like everything in life and i am honestly a great believer in each to their own.

When i bought my mattress they had 3 types of mattress of varying firmness and each if these had 3 depths giving a huge amount of choice.

I actually started off wanting the firmest spec and in the end (after lots of lopping) decided on quite the opposite, after initially dismissing the cloud for its 'softness' i actually found that it was the most comfortable after laying for a period of time.

I think Tempur are probably overpriced but with a 15yr guarantee and bearing in mind we spend on average 8 hours every night in bed i decided to go with what felt right :)

I am sure i would find something else just as good but at least now i dont have to

Thanks for all the input people..love this forum

Tried three expensive memory foam, binned them all and went to a mattress specialist for a proper mattress. Not a big brand name, made in England and it is an absolute delight to lie on. Can check the label if anyone wants a sprung mattress as ao opposed to memory foam.

Please. I'm in the market for a new mattress. Haven't discounted memory foam, although I hate the pillows, but nice to see what else is out there.

I'm also looking for a new bed/mattress & was pointed at this website:

    http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/

There's a lot of information to look through (including some on memory foam mattresses), the beds are made in the UK & there is a 30 day return guarantee. If you don't like it they will collect it & refund all your money.

FWIW Bensons have Tempur in the sale at 30% off at the moment. With a bit of negotiation I was offered a bit extra off the mattress and some half price pillows. Not enough to buy just yet though.

  34. #34
Just to update, after a few days i can confirm that it is the most comfortable mattress i have ever laid on

The aching was down to having a 'normal' pillow under the cloud pillow (habit)

+ 1. Have 2 at home, very comfortable. Sleep much better & no aches & pains
Considering you spend 30% of the day in bed you owe it to yourself to get a good mattress. Over a 10 year period the money seems negligible.

Tempur is the way to go. Initial outlay is high, but as many posters said before, over the course of 10-15 years (mine is now into 14th) negligible. Only downside: if you are used to having a cold bedroom (say 15 degrees C) be prepared for a very hard "plank" every night when you enter the bed. It only softens after a very cold 10 mins.

Yeah definately try a different pillow if you keep having the issue more than a month!

I used to work in a furniture store. Very few people came back complaining over these types of matresses.

I'm bumping this because GOD FORBID not using the search button.
I upgraded my bed to a tempur original deluxe 27 and tempur pillows at the weekend and while it's comfortable as hell I'm also waking up feeling a bit on the stiff side. Was wondering if this was part of the getting used to it process. Also a bit put out by the lack of bounce!
I get the sense of feeling like a crime scene outline once it's done it's moulding thing but the pillows are amazing.
Does it become normal in the end cos at the minute it's a very alien experience having been pocket sprung for so many years.

I've come across some in hotels but always wake up too hot so not for me. Vi Spring rules for me, sublime superb to be precise.

  41. #41
Vi-Spring for me as well, I've never found better, I have a memory foam mattress (Mlily) in one of my guest rooms that I've slept in before and it's ok but you do get too hot in it, it's not a patch on my Vi-Spring but the old analogy of you get what you pay for rules.

I sleep in hotels a fair bit, some of which boast memory foam mattresses (not that I know who supplies them or how close to Tempur they are). They're 'OK' but too warm for me. I'm a funny bugger when it comes to beds/bedding - I like to have some weight on top of me but hate being too hot so any heat issues coming from below aren't going to please me.

As an aside, when working in the US I will always stay in Marriotts if I have the choice based solely on their mattresses. I sleep better on them than on anything else, including home.

I used to have a Tempur Deluxe mattress but found it uncomfortable, my wife often complained of aching hips and lower back, we found it got worse over time and I'm sure the memory foam started acting more like conventional foam and bouncing back more quickly as it got older and it began to slump, after two years we replaced it with a Harrison traditional hand tufted mattress which I think has 7000 springs with a summer and winter side. I can honestly say it is the best mattress I have ever owned and I would never buy anything else.

We got the same in October last year. Took at least 10 nights I would say before we got used to it. Very bleary eyed for a number of days. Now we absolutely love it and struggle to sleep on normal mattresses in hotels etc. We were getting back ache with our old mattress but no problems at all with the Tempur.

Crap indeed! It looks nice at first glance but quickly becomes irritating as you try to search through it. Given that their website is their 'World Window', they could go with sorting this sooner rather than later!

We have a Tempur Cloud and I love it. Takes a while to get used to, but so comfortable once you do.

The pillow is a must IMO, and a lighter duvet too or it will get too warm.
