My two, Pearl & Maisie (sisters). They're a little older now, but just as cute.
Here's my two little no hopers. Both came from a cat sanctuary and were classified as no hopers by the lady who runs it.
Freya, giving me one of here 1,000 yard stares.
"Get any closer with that damn camera and I'll have you eye out"
And Thora.
"I may look cute but just remember who's the boss"
Freya is still practically feral after 9 years (I've seen her once this weekend and I've been outside most of it) but tolerates a fuss occasionally.
Thora is a proper fuss monster and incredibly determined. She's also a right hunter much to the dismay of the missus.

Our cat Lottie, who is a rescue cat.
The day she arrived looking a bit worried, perhaps because no-one had told her about a house with a then 2 year old in it!

Considering she's had a hard life she's lovely, tolerates the attentions of our now 4 year old happily, and is wonderfully affectionate yet still very much a street-wise cat :)

Friends have mine have three cats... Friday night the friend hears a car skid to a halt outside his house, so he peers outside the window... sees a guy jump out of his car, grab a cat from the boot and chuck it over his fence, jump back in his car and drive off! Cue them having four cats for a couple of days until the little fella was picked up. Not microchipped, so couldn't be traced to get the s**t that did it

This is Toby, a rescue cat.
For 99% of the time he's an affectionate lap-cat. For the other 1% he's a physopathic canabalistic man eating attack cat! Seconds after taking this photo he ripped my hand off and ate it (that bit's a lie). You know when he wants to play and you'd be well advised to stay away.
Nice kitties. But somehow I can't help thinking this would be more interesting if it were in another room here.

This is our Smokey, he's a rescue cat and quite large yet daft as a brush!!!
The woven straw rug was his 'opponent', he used to dive on it and wrassle it and bite it until he ripped out the centre and killed it
It ended up in the bin!!
He's a bit of a fattie and it's actually getting hard to pick him up!!
To say how dense his fur is, he still like loads of warmth!

The GF and I have been talking recently about getting a Maine Coon. I've always had cats in my family and her last cat was a stray Maine Coon that adopted her and her family :lol: some years back.
They're more like small lions than domesticated cats :lol:
Ziggy. He's been 'done', so comes across a bit metrosexual.
Lily. Still a kitten, and mental. Thankfully she's got past the rolling around in the litter tray stage :roll:
Both secondhand; all our cats have been, and they've all settled in very well.

We got the males from Cornwall and the female from Kent, when we got home we saw they had the same grandparents-small gene-pool!
My girlfriend and I started fostering cats about a year ago for a charity in Twickenham called ARC. Here are the latest kitties from the last few months.
Chelsea, a right character! To wake you up he'd stand on his hind legs at the foot of the bed and put his front legs under the duvet slowly clawing at your feet and legs till you woke up and fed him.
Lily, who we have at the moment but is getting re-homed this Saturday.
Rosie, who is Lily's kitten. She was very sweet and got re-homed a couple of months ago.
Once Lily goes to her new home ARC will want to give us another kitty, so if this thread's still alive next week I'll try to remember to add a pic of our next furry visitor.

Interesting that Lilly (above) is smallish, and tortoise shell and white. We have a very little cat with exactly that colouring and we also called her Lilly!

However, I live alone and due to work I'm not at home at least from 7:30 till 18:00 - since many cat owners are posting here I'll hijack the thread slightly - that would not be a proper way to keep a cat, right? I also have a very small flat and live in the city so I could not let the cat roam outside, it would almost certainly get run over. I assume I would not be doing the cat any favour by having it. Am I right with this?
I have two Siamese cats, one traditional and one modern (big ears!)...
Momo the modern (read pain in ass with the whining, but excellent personality and prone to funny things)..
and Suki the traditional who is far more relaxed and lazy..

I think you are doing exactly the right thing in not getting a cat. I also think that because you are interested in the cat's welfare prior to owning one that when your personal circumstances change you'll make a perfect and responsible cat owner.I want to have a pussy too!

Yes there are house cats that I am told lead perfectly happy lives but I could never bring myself to submit a cat to that sort of incarceration. On the two occasions that Toby has been confined to barracks through injury he wails with frustration. Cats might be brought up from an early age not to go outside but 10 hours a day (as in your case) without human contact is not in the best interests of the animal.
I was 46 before my circumstances changed and cat ownership was possible - I made the right decision to wait.

I squeal when the ginger ratbag bites me let alone a lion, it was just the weirdness of the noise that surprised me :shock:You'd squeal too if a lion was bringing you in.
Frog appeared unharmed but he gets through pigeons like a pest controller, garden looked like it had snowed when he got two in a day.
