    Watch Buying in Singapore?

    Hi,

A work colleague is going to Singapore with his wife to visit family. He did offer to have a look around for any watches for me if I gave him a list of anything I was looking for. Is it worth buying there? is there any good retail places, chains of shops anyone could recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

    Steve

Singapore is an incredible place for luxury products. Depends on what you are looking for as there are boutiques of every brand you could possibly think of in a few different areas.

Marina Bay Sands shopping centre will have a large concentration of high end stuff in a single place as there are boutiques from Rolex to Richard Mille, and everything in between. They have a good G-Shock boutique in there too. The exchange rates have been very volatile lately, so I couldn't comment on the current prices. Follow this link for their listings: http://www.marinabaysands.com/shoppi...755b1f38337f20

On the other side of things, for discounted stuff, with everything from Citizen and Seiko, up to Tag Heuer and similar, Mustafa shopping centre is unbeatable. It's also great fun to visit as tourist as it's crazy, but you need to be prepared to spend at least a few hours in there.

The whole of Orchard street is filled with shopping centres and boutiques, more watches than you could shake a stick at, but the one that stands out to me is ION. Again, an amazing collection of watch shops. Have a look at their directory http://www.ionorchard.com/en/ion-store-guide# Aside from the known names, there is a shop on the lower levels called Krasnaya, which carries lots of weirder stuff, such as Azimuth and some Russian watches. Well worth a visit.

Of course, there is tax free shopping for tourists. You reclaim the tax at the airport on your way out, but you have to get the paperwork filled in at the store.

Hope that helps a bit. I'm going again in the autumn, so it was good to refresh my memory too.

Bought a Pam 320 last year at ION Orchard and got the tax refund. However because I always feel as though I have guilty written all over my face I came through the red channel at Heathrow and after some haggling I reckon I was about quits compared with UK retail prices.

Lived in Singapore for a short while. Top of Orchard Road has a couple of places definitely worth a visit.

Most decent malls have a decent watch shop - enjoy!

    Watch Shopping in Singapore

For Rolex and other high end timepieces, pop into Orchard Road (ION, Takashimaya etc) and Marina Bay Sands. Other than the boutiques, you may wish to consider authorised dealers like Cortina, Sincere and Hour Glass. However, because of the recent rise in Swiss Franc, the selections may not be as plentiful as before for Swiss made watches.
For pre-owned pieces, you may wish to consider Peng Kwee (http://www.preownedwatches.sg/peng-kwee/) but walk in only if you know your watches and their market prices, and you will need to be focused.
Watch Arena/Montres carry some good stuff too (http://montres.com.sg/).

For Seikos and other Japanese made watches, you can easily spend one afternoon trawling through Mustafa or The Bencoolen. Bras Basah Complex and People’s Park Complex are also options.

For vintage, a good place to visit will be Heirloom Gallery at Riverwalk Gallery (http://www.heirloom2.com/Newadditions_index.htm). I believe they just got featured on LV City Guide for 2015.

Remember to get your paperwork in order to claim back 7% when you leave.
    Have FUN!

SkyWatches have some decent prices on their web site and I understand that they have a bricks and mortar shop out there.

Some really good used watches out there as well, I picked up one a lovely 16610LV when I was over there a few years ago.
