Sounds like a sensible move, but I feel your pain.
There is plenty of fun to be had at the cheap end of the market too... when I had to sell my Rolex Exp II, I dabbled with Vostoks and Seikos.
So the missus skidded her car in the recent snow and ice and caused a little damage, nothing major, but she has now realised what I have long been telling her, she needs a newer, better, safer and bigger car but she couldn't fund it, so Iv done the decent thing and sold my watches for her.
In my watch journey iv had allsorts, from a cheap Casio up to a beautiful Rolex SubC, and some amazing Omega's inbetween, Iv had quartz, auto's and manual winders, Swiss, British, German, Japanese, clear casebacks, leather straps, metal bracelets, 38mm up to 47mm and now I have nothing!
Horrible feeling but at the same time im happy my wife and son are driving around in something safe and reliable...
Sounds like a sensible move, but I feel your pain.

Good man, you did what had to be done. I am sure you'll be back in the game when the time is right
I would do exactly the same, good for you, I'm sure you'll find something you like soon enough.
As said above, the less expensive end of the market has lots of variety to keep you busy. Look at this as an opportunity to start from a clean slate and explore anew.
kick back, relax, enjoy a little quartz digital and the time will come when you are ready again, always does

Right move!
They are only possessions. Most people make the mistake thinking they own a possession, when in reality the possession owns them. I would sell everything I possess tomorrow without remorse if I had too.
Now the OP gets the joy of starting his watch journey all over again.
Years ago I sold a collection to fund a house move. Months later we needed some work done so I sold some more. It's only stuff and after a few years I soon got over it.

Brother this hobby brings pain and pleasure in equal measures but You've made a very sensible choice.
About ten years ago I was buying and selling (flipping) vintage Breitling Navitimers, Copilots, AVI's, etc, during a short period of unemployment to keep my son in college. They paid for over three semesters and kept him out of any student loans. Wow, I really wish I had some of those watches back now as the prices have quadrupled. You have to do what you have to do.
Ive done similar!! Ive been selling and will keep selling my collection to replace the money we used to get my wife and kids a Volvo XC90!!! safe!!! and the money im replacing is to finish the house before Oct so we can sell!! Although once that happens Im going to release money to fill the watchbox again!!
Good luck and you have definately done the right thing! If it wasnt for our watches we would definately have spent the money by now so its a good job we have them sometimes😉
Chris
A no brainier really, certainly when it comes to your loved ones. My modest collection would be gone in a heartbeat should the need arise. Well, except for two of them, my dads watch (no real financial value) and the one the Queen 'lends' me and will probably want back at some point......
What car was she driving and what will she be driving?
A few years ago I had to sell my watch collection due to my financial situation .I was annoyed at the time and missed them, but then I realised they are just possessions no more no less ,there are far more important things than watches out there.
I would have paid for a set of winter tyres for her car and kept my watches.

Right move! But I do feel your pain...
Look on the bright side on things - a huge part of the fun in this hobby of ours is the hunt. Slowly but surely, you will be back where you were, probably with an even 'better' collection!

Well done...you have to do what you have to do. I too feel your pain.
Well done to you, family always come . Hobbies second and third
Right thing to do. You'll have fun when you start rebuilding the collection with a clean slate.
Agree with Neil. Family always comes first!
It must have been really tempting to hold back just one watch.
Rather masterfully though, at a single stroke you have eliminated any possible objection your family could raise to your next watch purchase.
A few months from now would be a good time to admit to that Patek bought with your secret watch fund!
Either way, Well Played Sir.
Golf is a good choice, had one for years. During winter fit winter tyres they are better than 4wd and cheaper on the long run too. Stay safe
Get her some snow tyres too! A new car wont stop the same thing from potentially happening.
I got my wife some snow tyres one year and it made me feel a lot better when she was able to drive home with the kid in the back when people were abandoning cars by the road side.
It will cost you approx £400 but the downside is storage during the summer

And being bothered to change them over.
Golf's a fine choice. My wife's had them for years and swears by them.
