Hi there.
Might help to post your budget?
Having a look at my small collection I would like to add a birth year watch to try and round off what I have. As it states in the title my birth year is 89 so I am looking for suggestions as to what fits this criteria. Any recommendations would be really appreciated and I am not fussy with which watchmaker it may be.
Any watch at any price in production in '89 is pretty broad Tom.
Night need to narrow that down a bit.
What style of watches do you like, what approximate budget are you going to be working with?
Speedy 20th anniversary Apollo edition?
I knew I had forgotten to add something in, I would say budget of up to £3000 and style I'm not sure but would prefer something on a bracelet to be honest.
A first series zenith de Luca would be 88-89 I think,
01.0040.400
01.0042.400
01.0043.400
I feel old.
An 89 Airking I'd say.
Plenty of them about and well within budget.
The watch in vogue in 1989 was a Tag Heuer. Ok. Way below your budget but definitely in keeping.
Can someone please tell me the attraction of owning a watch that (coincidentally) is the same age as yourself?
I`ve owned stacks of vintage watches over the years, some much older than me and some around the same age, and some a few years newer. I must've owned a 1958 watch (my birth year) at some point but it simply didn`t seem significant.
Never heard of the 'birth-year' thing till I joined this forum; maybe I`m missing a trick, but I don`t see the attraction.
Far better to focus on buying watches you like IMO, the age should be a secondary consideration.
And how can you be sure it really is the correct year?

And how can you be sure it really is the correct year? If I was working on a 60s Omega I could probably make it whatever year you wanted by swapping the bridge which has the movement number stamped on.

You haven't missed a trick Paul. For me it was simply getting something to put into the collection that came from the year of my birth. I guess you either get that itch or you don't.
Watch collecting is a funny old game. You know that.
Plenty of threads about them including one of mine.

I would go for a rolex submariner 14060 non date. If you look hard enough you should find one for that money. Good luck pal.
