This is probably it, yes. It may also be why you're so negative about everything modern, watches included. You need to cheer up Paul - time for a holiday?

This car is intended as a track car that you can drive home afterwards, which is where it makes perfect sense. If I could, I'd have one and run it as a daily driver as I love all things race-bred.

I`ve stated an opinion you don`t agree with, I haven`t shot f****ng Bambi!! If you like the car that much, go out and buy one. I could....but I choose not to.

As for needing a holiday, I`ll be the judge of that! Don`t even go there, I cancelled holidays last year for health reasons.... I don`t appreciate your flippant comments on that topic.

Modern watches?.....just keeping consuming the bullshit you're being fed by the shovel-full; you obviously enjoy it. Nowt against modern watches (I`m wearing one at the moment) just the silly prices and the marketing crap that goes with them.

There's overreacting to a gentle ribbing and then there is that. Oaf.

Cheers mate. The dude touched a raw nerve when he mentioned holidays; it's easy to make flippant remarks like that without knowing the impact they may have. I`ve only recently been given the green light to travel overseas.....comments like his don`t go down well with me but I guess I should've ignored him.

Oaf?....maybe, but you don`t know me well enough to pass judgement.

This could be a truly amazing car. And a good investment...

Certainly looks very nice. The Cayman R is quick, but too easy to drive to be really engaging. Let's hope the GT4 is not the same.

I know nothing of your personal circumstances, and if I've offended you I apologise. It was meant as a friendly and 'gentle ribbing' as anton863 describes, hence the emoticon.

That looks awesome. Have been kicking myself recently for not buying a 997 GT3 when they looked like value. At the list price, this has got to be a good alternative.

Time to play on the configurator!

I would hazard a guess that the 997 would still be the better long term bet (and drive).

Been driving one for the last few days, hopefully I'll get to keep it.

    Gotta love "Real Racing 3"

I've always liked the Cayman much more than the 911, but when I drove one (in the real world!) it left me oddly unmoved...

I think you're probably correct although if Porsche bring out a 991 GTx with a manual 'box, I think the recent 996/997 GTx price rises may reverse to a degree

Do you think a 991 GT3 manual is a real possibility?

That's how I see it. Sad really, as I like the overall 991 package, but not as a PDK.

If the next 2 years UK allocation are sold already, I'd say used prices will be higher than new RRP...

Yep, in a similar way to the 991 GT3 but probably not so dramatic. I think the GT4 will be the poor man of the whole GT brand, both new and historic, but it will still hold value due to the controlled supply. Still prefer a 997 GT3 though, which has an established pattern of upward movement in value.

Monkey Harris has been hooning a GT4 around Portimao circuit.
I think he rather liked it?

The pistonheads review of the gt4 was positive, looks like a good little car. Shame they're only making a few and they're all sold. Good to see too that it's manual only too, quite a brave move for modern times.

I love the Gt4, but with serial buyers getting all the allocation there's no chance of any mere mortals getting one. Darn it!

OK, almost 12 months on we now have some very positive reviews (EVO Car of the Year) and it seems that anyone wanting to get one in the near future will need circa £100k to buy used. Have anyone's views changed?

Interestingly, Cayman R values seem to have held despite GT4 deliveries having started. Do we think they'll drop off now?

I think the GT4 will stay around the current levels, maybe drop a touch to £90k. You have to bear in mind that the cars are currently running at a £20k 'over' - no-one bought a list price £65k car, they all had (and needed) spec upgrades so they ended up around £80k new. Bucket seats, carbon brakes, ClubSport kits etc all pushed the price up, and in a GT car you'd want them.

I think the Cayman R will probably stay around the current levels as an enthusiasts choice, along with the GTS which will sit a bit higher. They're going to be the models sought after with their NA engines in my opinion, and in this descending order of price: 981 GT4 > 981 GTS > 987 R.

The whole Porsche thing is a bit crazy at the moment. I noticed that non-RS 964's are now going for £50K!!

It does make you wonder when/if the bubble will burst. I am resigned to never getting my hands on a nice air-cooled 911 unless there's a price crash.

I've only seen one comparison, the R being said to be more 'raw' feeling but the GTS was said to be one of the all time greats. This was GT Porsche magazine who did a back-to-back road test.

The November 2015 issue of Excellence magazine did a comparison of the R and GTS. FWIW, they called the Cayman R "... the better sports car". Also, "... Though it (the R) may be as fast as the GTS on paper, in the real world it actually feels quicker than the newer, more powerful car." Certainly some subjective opinions in the article but the overall conclusion was that the R topped the GTS.

    1-1 then

Very much a personal choice I think based on looks/spec/intended use etc.

Don't forget the 981 Boxster... it is currently:

    981 GT4 > 981 Spyder > 981 GTS > 987 R
