Thank you very much, Chris, great job!
Well it was a slow Sunday afternoon so I decided to try out a NATO on my Italian LE. Phil Lee had kindly donated some Panerai style lug tubes to me a few weeks back so it seemed like a good time to try them out.
First off - unscrew everything and ease out the lug wires.
Next offer up the lug tubes.
Before jiggling them into position on the watch - a bit fiddly
Tighten up all the screws and the job is done - the tubes makes the lug attachment very firm but there ain't much room for a strap :?
Not possessing any 24mm NATOs I stuck a 20mm RAF Bond on it .....
One of my favourite NATO straps and whilst a bit thin it works well enough.
You can just see the lug tubes in this shot.
I had a go with a 22mm Rhino but the keeper was a bit short and the Logo patch wouldn't go past the tubes (so I whipped them off) it didn't really work
It just goes to show you can get a NATO on virtually anything if you try hard enough
After all the playing around the '20 ended up on the tan leather strap with deployant.
And no damage to the lug screws
Thank you very much, Chris, great job!
Neat stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Looks great. It needs a 26 mm NATO with red, green, and white tricolore and you'll be ready to dive into a five-course Italian meal and then re-surface with a grappa
Cheers,
Gert
That looks very very wrong on a rhino
It can be done! :D
Agreed, it needs a 26mm NATO, but no one makes one. :?
Well done for being the man to try it first!
I'm sticking with leather, though! Although I've just sorted a silicon strap so that mine can (hopefully) take a dip in the Med next week!

While you are at it ... Is there anyone who makes a 24mm Bond NATO?Originally Posted by mr1973

Every watch a story.
That picture will be all over the Net by tomorrow with thousands of people looking for a 26mm NATO.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
I must confess I was fooled, until I revisited the top of the thread and figured out I'd been had.

Just so I don't go and make an unnecessary purchase, could someone provide some guidance as to exactly which Panerai lug tubes are needed here? Will just any tubes that are supposed to fit 26mm lugs do the trick? Or is there something else to consider as well?
As posted here earlier, don't get 26mm tubes. Try 24mm.
The tubes I used in the photos above are 22mm wide, with a 2mm outside diameter.Originally Posted by Watch Dilettante
