    R.I.P. Terry Pratchett

I just saw this on his facebook page.

"It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce that author Sir Terry Pratchett has died.
The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds. Rest in peace Sir Terry Pratchett."

So soon. I had hoped he'd have longer.

    What a loss.

How sad . He wasn't my favourite writer but when he was good he was great. Many fond memories of reading his books

Along with Iain Banks in the last couple of years its quite depressing.

Crikey - the missus just text me to let me know as she know's he's one of my favourite writers!

Such a terrible shame, but at least he died at home surrounded by family.
Heck of a story teller! I'll sorely miss his creativity and humour.

Very sad. He and Robert Rankin are my favourite tellers of tall tales

This is really sad news. I've got all his Discworld books and enjoyed almost all of them. I'm currently reading The Illustrated Wee Free Men to my 6 year old daughter so tonight's bedtime will be poignant.

Adding to my earlier post, I hope he was able to finish "The Shepherd's Crown". I want to read one more story about Tiffany Aching.

Very sad news indeed, I enjoyed his books immensely.

I still can't flip a coin and resist calling Edge! before it lands :)

I always remember playing the Discworld computer games as a kid. Real 'out there' sense of humor in them. RIP

I just read "Where's My Cow" to my two year old son at bedtime. His first Terry Pratchett story. It seemed appropriate tonight.

I just ordered it to read to my two month old son, Sam, when he is a bit older. I hope it sparks a love of the Discworld novels in him.

He'll like that there's Sam and Young Sam in the book.

Very sad indeed. I've been a fan since the mid 80's when i first read The Colour of Magic and have every Discworld book to date as well as some of his others. A truly brilliant writer and a sad loss

    An amazing mind.
I cant recall a moment in my teen to adult life where something he'd written wasn't close to hand.
Not like me to go on downers, but Im really gutted about this news.

His talent was such that he'll never actually die.

Nah, they'll live on in the imaginations of everyone who's read his books (and reads them again and again) and in all those lucky buggers yet to read them. They also live on in our language, for example I'm sure he came up with 'ladies of negotiable affection' and being 'vertically challenged'.

    So true.

There is also hope that his daughter and/or his assistant will continue his Discworld work. I expect it will be different and yet Discworld has not necessarily lost its future.

I'm a huge admirer of all of Sir Terry's work and feel pretty winded just now. Dignified, thought provoking, unassuming but with a flamboyant streak - and very, very funny.

He was responsible for some truly wonderful quotes, many of which are here:

    http://www.lspace.org/books/pqf/

So here's one related to our shared interest, from Wyrd Sisters:

"The duke had a mind that ticked like a clock and, like a clock, it regularly went cuckoo."

People often write "LOL" in hyperbolic response to something they see on the Internet but Terry's writing really does make me LOL. Sometimes I crack up laughing at some of the phrases and imagery he created.

Currently reading Raising Steam, his final novel, I believe. It's good but there are signs all was not quite right.

Apart from the personal tradegy it's having a traumatic effect on my planned reading list. With Iain M Banks going too, both at too young an age. There is no match for either from other authors.

    Great shame.

This.. there was a finality about it, like he was trying to fit in as many characters and tie up threads as possible..

I felt it was saying goodbye.. it saddened me.. bittersweet

I also felt the prior book snuff was one of his best and most powerful
