Well, that's a bit bloody depressing ;(
I just saw this on his facebook page.
"It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce that author Sir Terry Pratchett has died.
The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds. Rest in peace Sir Terry Pratchett."
So soon. I had hoped he'd have longer.
What a loss.
Thats very sad news.
HELLO, IT SEEMS YOU RAN OUT OF DRIED FROG PILLS. THIS WAY PLEASE.
No.. that's it.. the guy Is my all time favourite writer..
Gutted..
How sad . He wasn't my favourite writer but when he was good he was great. Many fond memories of reading his books
Along with Iain Banks in the last couple of years its quite depressing.
Crikey - the missus just text me to let me know as she know's he's one of my favourite writers!
Such a terrible shame, but at least he died at home surrounded by family.
Heck of a story teller! I'll sorely miss his creativity and humour.
"Mort" was my personal favourite of his discworld books.
...I think he would have got the Irony.
RIP
Very sad. He and Robert Rankin are my favourite tellers of tall tales
This is really sad news. I've got all his Discworld books and enjoyed almost all of them. I'm currently reading The Illustrated Wee Free Men to my 6 year old daughter so tonight's bedtime will be poignant.
Sad loss. I have many of the his novels going back to the early 90's. He will be missed. RIP
Adding to my earlier post, I hope he was able to finish "The Shepherd's Crown". I want to read one more story about Tiffany Aching.
RIP Terry, you made me laugh, very sad end.
:( RIP
Very sad news indeed, I enjoyed his books immensely.
I still can't flip a coin and resist calling Edge! before it lands :)
No one else knows what I'm talking about but it makes me smile.
Sad news indeed. One of my favourite authors of all time.RIP.
I always remember playing the Discworld computer games as a kid. Real 'out there' sense of humor in them. RIP
I just read "Where's My Cow" to my two year old son at bedtime. His first Terry Pratchett story. It seemed appropriate tonight.
Very sad indeed. I've been a fan since the mid 80's when i first read The Colour of Magic and have every Discworld book to date as well as some of his others. A truly brilliant writer and a sad loss
‘DON’T THINK OF IT AS DYING,’ said Death. ‘JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.’
RIP :-(
A brave man to have tackled the death with dignity issue. Hopefully people will continue the fight
Very sad news. It's not just Sir Terry; we also have to say good bye to Sam Vimes, Lord Vetinari, Death, Moist von Lipwig and all his other creations.
Rest in peace Terry, with any luck, you'll be riding the giant turtle flanked by your elephants on your way to a better place.
Gone but never forgotten.
A brilliant creative brave man. My daughter started me off on his books after she read the colour of magic. I am raising a glass to him.
A very sad end to an enthralling tale.
RIP
He seemed like a fine fellow to me
Bon voyage old chap - you will be missed
An amazing mind.
I cant recall a moment in my teen to adult life where something he'd written wasn't close to hand.
Not like me to go on downers, but Im really gutted about this news.
His talent was such that he'll never actually die.
Nah, they'll live on in the imaginations of everyone who's read his books (and reads them again and again) and in all those lucky buggers yet to read them. They also live on in our language, for example I'm sure he came up with 'ladies of negotiable affection' and being 'vertically challenged'.
I'm a huge admirer of all of Sir Terry's work and feel pretty winded just now. Dignified, thought provoking, unassuming but with a flamboyant streak - and very, very funny.
He was responsible for some truly wonderful quotes, many of which are here:
http://www.lspace.org/books/pqf/
So here's one related to our shared interest, from Wyrd Sisters:
"The duke had a mind that ticked like a clock and, like a clock, it regularly went cuckoo."
Don't just do something, sit there. - TNH
Sad news indeed ,
mike
RIP Terry. Loved Mort.
Captain Carrot and Corporal Nobby Nobbs will raise a glass or two in his honour, I shouldn't wonder.
RIP Sir Terry - goon, but not forgotten
Ook !
Currently reading Raising Steam, his final novel, I believe. It's good but there are signs all was not quite right.
Apart from the personal tradegy it's having a traumatic effect on my planned reading list. With Iain M Banks going too, both at too young an age. There is no match for either from other authors.
Great shame.
Very sad news and a great loss. One of my favourite authors.
RIP, great author
Very much saddened by this, one of my very favourite authors.
