    Piaget, what do you think?

One brand I don't see mentioned much here is Piaget. Why is that? What do you think of the brand?

I see your point here, I thinks its because people may see Piaget in the same vain as Cartier, Graaf, etc.

More jewelry based watches than functional watches. In my experience these forums (like WUS, etc.) have more content leaning towards, chronographs, pilots, divers, 'tool' watches.

That would be something of a mistaken view.

I think I'm right in saying that Piaget manufacture (in house) the worlds thinnest mechanical movement.

I'd rather spend my money on a proper watch like a Rolex.

Why is Piaget not a proper watch?

Why would you buy that over a Seiko? No one sells fake Seikos but I've seen plenty of moody Molex, Polex and Bolex on the beaches of the world. In fact, I'd kick the tyres and light fires on a G-Shock and close the door on the rest. Pull the trigger on a Nato and rock it on new shoes for the tactical look.

    No thanks needed.

Just thinking a bit more about Piaget (and other excellent brands like Parmigiani Fleurier, with in house movements and beautiful pieces).

For a new timepiece from these companies you are looking in the +£10k region and to be honest, you are dangerously close to Patek Calatrava territory.

Maybe Patek has a huge grip in this region ?

At that price point, you're often buying with your heart rather than just your head – but I'd sooner have a Moser for sub-£10K than the Calatrava, and pocket the rest or have something else with the difference.

Piaget do one nice piece, for me....the Polo 45

    It's just what you like.

I know a bloke who will only wear gold Piagets etc and never think of wearing a Rolex or similar.

Sometimes I think black dialled sports watches do look a bit hackneyed and common.

FWIW I don't like the Polo but think the first model is beautiful.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I'm pretty sure the first model is also called a Polo, but one of the originals from the seventies. This caught my eye at a swanky watch do a couple of years ago - two ulta-thin mechanical movements giving a dual-time watch with a thickness of 11.7mm.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose that it works against Piaget that they are expensive and the question whether or not a potential buyer would rather have a PP is bound to come up. They are delicate and don't seem to be suited to the rigors of daily wear or heaven forbid, swimming and diving. They are however slim dress watches and some of them are quite attractive.

Piaget is making some really nice stuff there's no doubt about that. Their movements are made in house too. It's a shame about their price point though. I know if I'm spending that much I'm gonna go with PP over Piaget.

Certainly novel but surely a faff to see the second time.

Quicker to do it mentally (and that hinge looks rather fragile)

A serious company, Piaget, and one of the coolest in my opinion. If I were buying a dress watch at that kind of price, the choice would come down to Patrimony and Altiplano.

The variants I like best might be a little large, at 40-43mm, but that would be my only reservation. The choice would probably depend on how conventional I was feeling on the day.

Actually Seikos are faked, both in back street watch shops and on an industrial scale. Seiko 5s, Monsters and other divers have been and are faked.

Faking is as much about volume as it is about high individual value.

As for Piaget, it's a manufacturer I'd like to pursue one day.

Have one of these, my wife bought it for me about about 30 years ago, it was my only watch for abt 7/8 years. I rarely wear it this days as it is quite small by modern standards and I now have a few others but it is a lovely watch

    Me thinks

I think Piaget have a really strong identity in the dress segment, but if You are drawn to models such as the Polo You get A LOT of watch for your money if You find them used!

Many thanks for all the great contributions.

One of my colleagues wears a ghastly YG Piaget but I do like their Polo 45.
One of my friends has an Upstream which is also fairly decent.
