I took this pic when I had the passaround PRS-18Q:
From memory, they wore pretty similarly, although I think the 18 didn't wear as tall as the 14 (but it has been a while since I had them both).
I am considering purchasing a PRS18 and would like to know how it compares size wise to the PRS14. I've owned the 14 and the size was good. Does the 18 wear much smaller?

It's smaller but not much smaller and is better balanced on the wrist INMHO.Originally Posted by ODP

Every watch a story.
I did own both for a while, I think the 18 is a tiny bit taller and a tiny bit smaller in diameter - I owned the 18q and it was also a fair bit heavier than the 14. for some reason the 18 sat better on my wrist, and was perfect on a 'slashed' 2 ring Nato strap - I actually preferred it to the 14, and am seriously considering buying another, really miss the chunky little bugger
The 14 wears fairly tall, I certainly notice it when I'm wearing it. You can see it a bit here in this pic:

That does look quite tall. Is it prone to knocks and scrapes?
Not sure. I don't tend to ding my watches, and I haven't done so to my 14, the bezel it about 1mm higher than that on an Orange Monster (measurement by Mk I Eyeball). If you ding something the height of an OM, then you'll probably get the 14 slightly easier.Originally Posted by hogthrob

I have both and I wear the PRS-14 at least once a week not a ding or scratch on it. I have worn the PRS-18A twice and I always pass it up while looking for that days watch. I will have to find a strap I really like for it as I don't like NATOS.
Eddie's black aviator does the job for me.
Then the PRS-18 will sit almost as tall on the wrist as the PRS-14 (those natos not having that extra piece of fabric under the watch head), but with a regular strap it will sit lower, even though the bezel on the PRS-18 is taller than that on the PRS-14.
Event though the PRS-18 does feel heftier on the wrist, if you checkout the actual specifications on Eddie's website, you'll find that the PRS-14 and PRS-18A weigh precisely the same 90g! The PRS-18Q weighs in at just 80g.
I have dinged my 18Q's bezel edge a couple of times against metal, but it hasn't a mark on it, so the satinised finish holds up well to dings but I suspect it would get marked if scratched or scraped. The PRS-18 is less bling with the dull finish and that maybe what makes one perceive it as heavier than the PRS-14....looking more 'tool-like'.

This thread, and another that included a comparison of the 18's dial and hand combo to that of an IWC's, convinced me to pull the 18 out of the watch box this morning. I've got it on one of Eddie's aviators.
Honestly, I couldn't be happier with my chosen watch for the day.
Really, really great watch.
