    No disagreeing with that!

The Killing and The Bridge are both excellent Scandi Noir

    Homeland very watchable

I really liked Top of the Lake too - dark and gripping

OP, I saw first season of Amaerican Horror Story - what are the others like?

I was just looking at Netflix last night with a view to signing up but not being able to watch it on my TV in the lounge puts me off. I have a new Sony LCD which isn't 'smart' so I'm assuming I can't get it to stream to that? Am I missing something? Is there some kind of USB dongle I can get to plug into my TV to receive the stream?

Any number of them - probably the best known is Chromecast, about £30
    Amazon Link
Plug it into your TV, and stream whatever from your PC/Laptop, Tablet or Phone
Netflix & iPlayer apps but will "cast" anything on your internet screen

^ I connect my computer to the TV with an HDMI cable (cost a tenner) and then kill the computer screen with Fn F6. The image quality is first class.

As for recommendations for what to watch, it seems Netflix has different offers in different countries - but I watched and enjoyed Broadchurch, Top of the Lake, Penny Dreadful, Better Call Saul and Elementary. I'm currently watching Once Upon a Time (chewing gum for the mind) plus classic movies (recently Belmondo's A Bout de Souffle) and looking forward to the new Netllix series Daredevil.

Chromecase doesnt work with iOS though... as I learned to my expense! (thankfully Amazon refunded me though).

An Apple TV would work, if you are iOS.

As for TV shows; Homeland is the best thing on there.

I cant really get into House of Cards.

    Better Call Saul is amazing.

Chromecast works perfectly with iOS for me. Have watched MLB.TV and Netflix on one this morning, straight from my iPhone.
As for recommendations, the best show after (equal to?) House of Cards is:
    Orange Is The New Black.

Using chromecast with a variety of IOS, Android and Windows with no problems whatsoever. In fact Netflix on a tablet is much easier to use and find things compared to the Tivo box or our smart tv as the interface is pants.

Chromecast works fine on iOS but only with apps that support it, so you can't just mirror the screen to the TV like you can with Apple TV.

Supported apps include iPlayer, Netflix, and YouTube, but not (for example) 4OD or Al Jazeera.

sorry that's what I meant - you cant mirror and the EuroSport app wouldnt work with iOS/chromecast, which were the two specific functions I bought it for.

It does all that via Android though.

The killing series is one of the best I've ever watched - gripping and excellent cast

Netflix is driving me mad at the moment, work a few days a week in Europe so watch Netflix on my iPad in the hotel but then find what I was watching is not available to watch in the UK! In December I was in Dallas watching Sons of Anarchy half way through season seven and. Come to UK to find its not on Netflix (is now but I had to wait a month).

I'm watching suits which is good and when away I'm into Lost.

    Other good ones

    Orange is the new black.
    Sons of anarchy
    Prison break
24 (awesome but it will be a full week of your life given up to TV)

I agree films aren't great but keep searching there are some good ones there.

Just go through an invisble browser, such as IBVPN, like airline crews do, and then you can pretend to be anyhere in the world when you log on to Netflix, BBC, Channel 4, etc.

Yeah The Killing is another great series to watch on there...

We have just watched the final episode of 'Grimm', having discovered the series when we activated Netflix a couple of months ago. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. 'Pumping Iron' was an enjoyable blast from the past and 'The Family' with Robert De Niro was bloody funny.

I did look at VPN but didn't want to pay a monthly fee, you might be right though I shouldn't be so tight. Thanks.

Are you watching the Danish or American version? Are they both good or not?

    Danish is amazing!

Now, I raved about it so much that a mate of mine watched the American version out of mock-spite - he said was good to be fair but the actress playing Danish lead got such acclaim I would definitely go to that one personally

Btw - noticing your location on the left of the screen reminded me of another excellent Netflix show - "Spiral" (was made as "Engrenages")

Really great crime drama set in Paris imho

I've not seen it mentioned here but The Shield was very good, I enjoyed all 5 series.

I started watching Daredevil yesterday but didn't rate it so won't continue watching. I enjoyed the American version of The Killing even though it was a bit slow and always seemed to be raining.

Just finished Series 4 of The Killing. Generally good quality drama throughout and well acted. Not many laughs though.

Also Netflix has introduced me to Community. US Sitcom based in a local Community College. Suprisingly high quality comedy with a good cast, clever scripts and lots of episodes to devour over a period of time. Particularly like Chevy Chase sending himself up as not seen him in anything for many many years.

"Episodes" is worth a watch. I absolutely hated Friends, so was a bit put off because Matt LeBlanc was in it, but it's actually very funny.

If you missed out on Fargo (TV series) on terrestrial, you should give it a go on Netflix. If you liked the film, don't worry, it's not a bastardisation of it.

Check out "Archer" for some funny & tasteless animated viewing.

Slightly off topic - but anyone using Google Chrome to watch Netflix should google "Netflix God Mode" - it's a JavaScript bookmark which changes Netflix so everything is displayed in a big list instead of the sideways scrolling thing they do.
