Based on a true story( apparently) but well worth a couple of hours.
Saw this one recently also and thought it was very well done.

Wife's away so I might watch this again tonight...thanks for the reminder!

Gone Girl is defintely worth a watch. A David Fincher film is normally not a disappointment, and for me, it helped that I didn't really have any idea about the plot before seeing it. There was a dash of very funny, black humour as well. Wife and I thought it was a little bit like Nightcrawler, which again we really enjoyed recently.

"I give it a year", one of the funniest films I've seen, Stephen Merchant is superb in it.

Awesome film, I think Mark Wahlberg is absolutely fantastic (and he's usually sh$t to be fair!) but Alec Baldwin and Martin sheen have such great (small) parts too plus the big hits from jack Nicholson, Damon and dicaprio too!

Great film - The first half is full of some of the most quotable lines in Cinema history.

The most must be from my fave Withnail and I.

    Watched 'Now Is Good'

i was blubbering....the Memsaab was blubbering......a friend came round halfway through and she was blubbering.

i think the dog was blubbering.

I never snivel in movies so it must have been good. Recommended. You need wine and Kleenex.

This movie could so easily have been sickly and twee, but it was well balanced.

John Wick - almost zero plot, almost zero character development. Brilliantly choreographed fight sequences. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

There is a scene where John Wick is fighting the main antagonist in the rain, and it could just have easily been Johnny Utah fighting Bodhi on the beach. But then Keanu is immortal.

I really enjoyed inoffensive 12 certificate sci-fi flick 'Edge OF Tomorrow'. I'm developing a crush on Emily Blunt.

John wick-awesome if you like action films!

Fast and furious 7-awesome if you like far fetched action films (with a huge dollop of sentimentality at the end, worked to leave nary a dry eye in the cinema)

Indiana jones in the temple of doom- AWESOMELY AWESOME!!!!!

Interstellar - not sure my thoughts, it was gripping then got away from itself IMO

A Place Beyond the Pine - not very good lost interest in it as the movie went on

Watched "John Wick" with Ethan Hawke this weekend. If you like revenge films, you'll love this.

Watched 'The Equaliser' on the plane a couple of days ago. Usual Denzel stuff but watchable goodie vs about 300 baddies stuff. Watched a lot worse than that through to the end.

Also watched 'horrible bosses 2', not as good as the first but seeing Jennifer Aniston playing a nymphomanic dentist and talking complete filth was strangely captivating!!! Wish she was my dentist.

Studio Ghibli film called Porco Rosso..quite good fun and more successful than Titanic at the box office, evidently.

I enjoyed John Wick, some tongue in cheek humour, and some of the scenes reminded me of John Woo and the like

    Cheers

Right from the moment he shouts "I am Gunnery Sargent Hartman" to the moment Private Pyle shoots him Lee Ermey steals the film! Superb and as you say, sooooo quotable!

I'm currently re-watching For A Few Dollars More on Sky Select, reckoned by many to be the best of the "Dollars" trilogy.

Regarding Full Metal Jacket, a lot of people forget that Lou Gossett Jnr. did a similarly good job as drill sargeant in An Officer And A Gentleman, five years before Full Metal Jacket. I remember when I first saw FMJ thinking "I've seen this before". I'm not saying the films are otherwise comparable.

Further to that, I always felt that in terms of Vietnam films with contrasting halves, FMJ compared badly to The Deer Hunter (released 9 years before FMJ, though FMJ probably started filming first).

Finally on this subject, is anyone watching Daredevil on Netflix?

Lee Ermey was the consultant on An Officer And A Gentleman. He was due to be the consultant on Full Metal Jacket but after giving Stanley Kubrik the full "drill sargent" beans for five minutes without pausing or repeating himself Kubrik gave him the role of Gunnery Sargent Hartman.

Interesting, thanks. It explains the similarities.

I thought he was just name dropping.

" Yeah, just watched it with my mate Ethan, he's a bit of a prick but always gets a round in"

What we do in the shadows

I rented this from iTunes over the weekend & have to say it was very good, despite some reservations.

A NZ based film of a house share between aging vampires, done in documentary style - could have been awful, but very funny indeed & did not disappoint at all.

Also watched Dredd on TV last night as there was bugger all else on.

Fantastic comic book adaptation. With more advertising could have done so much better at box office.

Really enjoyed it too! Just happened to switch onto it just as it started

Very bizarre that it had the very same plot as 'The Raid' though which came out around that time

Fair Game with Naomi Watts and Sean Penn.

Interesting fact based film from the original book about how the government leaked the ID of a female CIA operative after her husband was critical of the Bush administration.

    Mad Max - Fury Road

I've just seen this. Excellent action pic. Very little dialogue but it does not detract from what is essentially a non stop chase film.

Also, it's the first film I've seen it with Dobly Atmos. It was mind blowing. It was just so much better than anything else I've heard in a cinema. The added bonuses was the film was in 2D, which I much prefer.

I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger's new low-budget drama, "Maggie," yesterday. It was an excellent film, not following any standard movie formula. Arnold plays a caring and conflicted father whose daughter has contracted a deadly disease that is medically akin to zombieism. Arnold takes a large step out of his performance envelope, toward Liam Neeson territory.

  48. #2298
That's interesting, I'd not heard of it. He seemed to be trying to extend his range a bit in Sabotage, which I didn't think particularly worked, but I'm certainly interested to see him try other things.

  49. #2299
    The Punk Singer.

Documentary about Kathleen Hannah from Bikini Kill, good movie if you are into your early 90's alternative scene.

  50. #2300
    The Signal. With Lawrence Fishburne.

Akira meets District 9 meets weird. I kind of enjoyed it.....bit of a mind bending ending.
