Retro Cycling Shoes - Serious Image Conscious Roadies Only Need Apply!

    Hi folks,

I seem to be really getting into the "retro" cycling look lately, however I am a "performance" oriented amateur cyclist, not just someone who wants to tootle along whilst looking stylish! So my needs are for "high performance" whilst looking "retro". I have all the clothes now, but my "modern" white Shimano shoes are ruining the look I am trying to cultivate!

    Anyway, I want some SPD-SL compatible cycling shoes which are;

    1) black
    2) lace up (or have the appearance of being lace up)
    3) leather, or leather look
    4) retro! (think Merckx, Coppi, old skool etc)

Any suggestions where I might find such a product?

    Cheers and happy cycling!

    Adrian.

Been discussed before http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...ighlight=shoes. Although not performance orientated?

    D'oh sorry!

I'm usually the first to pop up with the "use the search function" type posts! Didnt think this would have ever been discussed, so didn't check!

    Anyway, cheers for the post!

LOVE Rapha, and have quite a few bits of their stuff, but I have gone off them since I spent about Ģ800 with them and ONE DAY later they reduced it all and refused to honour the price difference! The difference was Ģ300, so not insignificant. And over the previous year I had spent nearly Ģ1500 with them.

I sent them a humpity email and promised to never buy from them again, and pointing out that they were about to lose such a perfect customer though (high spender on this sort of crap, happy to pay a premium, disposable income etc etc). Credit to them for sticking to their guns and refusing, even when I sent all Ģ800 worth of clothes back on pricicipal haha!

I live near an Evans store, so it doesnt hurt to buy them online, try them and return them for free should the not fit. These are pretty much perfect, so thanks!

If you don't nail in the cleats, is it really retro, or merely ersatz retro? ;)

    Best wishes,

Retro is ījustī emulating the vintage.

Ditto with shirts. One can have a retro design in modern tech or a copy in wool. The latter was superceeded for several reasons though.

In other words; would you want a roaring twenties material wiggly spring in a retro jump hour watch?

That's all very well but I would maintain that not all of the modern tech supercedes merino in all characteristics. Pong would be the first one to come to mind.

Spa Cycles might have what you're looking for, but they're touring shoes, so they won't be ultra stiff.

I dont shave (only trim to about 3mm stubble once a week), and yes, I have a bright orange "San Pellegrino" jersey which I wore today (I thought the Molteni was just a bit too OTT!).

On a serious note, I try to wear non-branded, non-w&nky retro stuff - Rapha sort of stuff, until I had my falling out with them.

Along with riding round and round hampton park because a) you get seen and B) you dont want to go far away from home incase you get tired or a puncture!

I dont care if people ride fixed or wear full team kit as long as they have the legs and lungs for it or truly live the lifestyle.

    I donīt care, period.

Just like the watch hobby. Good fun for palavering, sharing experiences and opinions, but for the rest it is about personal enjoyment. They, we, are all having fun in a personal way. Me? I wear a bowler hat

I've been hankering after some of those for a while, though I've recently noticed the Giro Republic LX - which only take a 2 bolt cleat though
