    Your usual must have things.

True keepers. They do exist. Things you can't do without.

Everyone has them. I'm not talking about the, kids, pet etc... Just material stuff.

    iPhone (6)
The iPhone/pad are constants. Such a device, amazes me every day. Apple TV too most nights
    (Don't tell anyone, but I think I preferred the 5 then the 4 as a phone :-/ )

Ray-Ban's my wife bought me whilst in Venice last year. I love them and when you find a pair of sunglasses that suit, just grab them. Always in the car, just in case the Sun decides to show its face.

My Dads old 16750. If everything else had to go, this would be the one thing that stayed.
My Dad lusted after this watch, bought for him by my late Mother, and wore it every day of my childhood, gifting it to me just after my 30th.

My Mk4 PD150 GT TDi.... Currently on 129k, huge service history and since mapped, pulls like a train. All OEM apart from the remap (wheels are off a VW Beetle Turbo, and much easier to clean than the standard multi spokes) Inconspicuous, cheap to run, and I still love the shape over all Golfs that have come after it. Would love to drop it, but I use it everyday, park it anywhere etc..etc...

    6 disc changer.....
Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by RHCP

    Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins

3ft High and Rising by De La Soul

Melting Pot by The Charlatans (best of)

    Ill Communication by The Beasties

My Walkman goes everywhere with me. I cannot do without music for more than half a day.

That's about my entire list. I'll happily leave my phone at home and any other gadget.

This is mine, plus a few watches and my father's Guernsey. I'm assuming my wife is driving a lorry containing all my other stuff.

Sure the brand has fallen out of favour with today's youth. But they offer superior sound, build quality and battery life over the iPod and most other offerings that are sub £500.

I cannot think of a single thing that's important apart from family etc.

I don't go anywhere without my iPhone, so it'd have to be that I suppose. I don't have a favourite watch or other possession.

I thought that I'd think of something this morning.. Keys may be, so I can get back to my place? On the other thought, passport, wallet and my phone.

I've not listened to Pauls Boutique in ages. Think I prefer Check Your Head over that too.

It was a close call that CH's Black Sunday was one of the six, but have to be in the right mood for it.

I always think stuff is just stuff and try not to focus on it too much but I guess that if you keep something with you through a number of years, house moves, countries or partners then you are probably getting attached.

I have dragged this coffee table with me for 20 years through 4 homes and 3 countries and it's bl**dy heavy so I guess it's here to stay.

This GMT-C has been on my wrist 90% of the time since I bought it the day they came out in the UK so it must be doing something good.

I've had an iPhone of one sort or another constantly since they were launched and use it for dozens of different things every day so that's proved itself as a valuable EDC as far as I am concerned too.

I seldom keep cars more than 2 or 3 years but my E70 X5 35d is well past it's 5th birthday and although I have thought about changing it numerous times over the last 3 years I just can't think of anything that would serve its role in my life nearly as well, other than another X5 which seems a waste of money, so she stays on here too.

I have this little Ti torch and knife on my keyring that both get used every day and would be replaced like for like if they got lost so I'll add them to the list too.

Check your head & Ill communication are level pegging IMO
Not in the same order, your top 6 albums, I absolutely concur (freakishly).

I would say an internet connection & an android tablet are pretty much essential, now (amazing to think how integral this is & yet how recent)
And my late father's Michell Gyrodec + the rest of the gubbins needed to make some noise.

Fantastic music taste and I agree RATM is number 1. The closest rival for a distant second place is At the drive in - Relationship of command.

I need to give your original question some thought, only things that jump out at me at the moment are a fast car, a dSLR and my record collection.

Another vote for Check Your Head. A seminal album that brought them back from the brink of almost total obscurity and was the springboard for all their great stuff thereafter. Don't get me wrong, Paul's Boutique is an outstanding album with some of their best songs, but CYH for me is their best. Jimmy James is quite probably my favourite Hip Hop track of all time.

Measuring tools. The more I do stuff, the more I want them. Here are some that I've picked up along the way.

Calipers: vernier, digital, inside, outside and depth.
Micrometers: Inside, outside, and depth, large and small.
    Escapement analyser.
    Camera shutter speed.
Light meter: UVA, spot, reflective, incident.
Weight: micro scale, mini scale, and hanging hook for luggage and the like.
    Rotational speed.
    Multimeter.
Straight edge, protractor, angle gauge, ....
    Thread gauge.

I could go on. If you don't know what you've got, you don't know how to get what you want. However, the senses are still jolly useful.

    Best wishes,
    Bob

Only just converted to iPhone. Have a 5s which is certainly very good, but a smart phone of some make is definitely a must have.

    These are pretty essential too

A knife. This varies on what, but always carry a bladed article of some sort.
A bank card. I tend not to carry cash as I squander it if it's to hand ;)
I also have a little Ti torch on my car keys, with me 90% of time and used so often. But I don't always carry my car keys so....
and my iPhone is close, although if I can leave it, I do - I hate the thing, but life dictates a necessity for it.

Honestly, other than my watch - I am a one-at-a-time man, so whatever is current flavour (MM300 presently) - bank card and a knife, that would be it.

    Walkman? Retro cool

So, for me it's my iPhone 5s to combine music, phone and web stuff.

RayBan Caravan medium, but with brown lenses, and always in the car

Packet of American Spirit tobacco and silver Rizla. I'm down to 5-a-day so that's healthy, right?

Identity bracelet given to me by a very good friend. If I forget to put it on I get narked. It's like putting a watch on - part of the routine.

Pic of my wife and chilluns in my wallet. I thought I'd lost it once and nearly cried, until I found it under my chair at work.

Some clothes, and a watch of some sort, without either i'd feel naked.
plus some general edc stuff, wallet, lighter and some keys.

Past that, there's nothing really, even my wallet has been optimized and become almost a basic card holder.

These used to be must haves, but these days i don't find them as necessary, no idea why.

-Phone, meh, it's kind of refreshing to go hiking in the highlands with no cellphone reception... saves me from going on ebay and buying junk, serves no purpose otherwise.
-My car used to be in my list..... but i'd get shot of it in a heart beat for the right money, driving it isn't as fun as it used to be, even after spending megabucks on a mega response rebuild and general tidyup to try and get the "love" back :S (i'm an idiot)
-Music using to be, always had a walkman, MD player or ipod.... thesedays, not so much.

Heres an odd one, but it could be more OCD than essential... I hate wearing any trousers/jeans/chinos etc without a belt. It even annoys my eyes if I see other blokes wearing trousers without a belt (especially jeans). Cant explain it.

As such, I have 3 decent leather belts. Other than that; Explorer II or CWC G10 rule the wrist (from a pool of a dozen), decent mechanical pencils (currently holding a Rotring 500, 0.5mm HB).

Cant understand the lads who find their mobile phones essential, I see them as a short life item that cause hassle and are designed to bleed our money and time. Currently have rubbish Samsung one somewhere in the kitchen. No matter how good your phone is, it will be rubbish in 18months time and I've been through that cycle too many times now to keep swallowing it.

i love my card carrier, it is a very tactile thing and was a gift i carry everyday

and if im in work i always have my filofax ( i know, how very 90's!) and pen case

whilst we are on the 90's theme, i couldnt do without this expensive ornament

    Your usual must have things

I've had to think, really think about this one.
The answer is nothing, as in no thing is a must have for me. I know it sounds very new age zen type thing to say, but that's where I stand.

Oddly I went to a Philosophy School taster session a while ago (just to see what it's all about) and the invite said 'bring something you love.
People brought in al sorts of stuff, from expensive showy items to worthless (money wise) sentimental items.

I took nothing, and when asked I gave the same answer. My mate who I bumped into there (didn't know he was going) said "what about your watch? or your car?"
I just said, both are very good at what they do and I like them, but that's all.

Even those two things if I had to give them up for some reason, I would.
