Like for many other, it was a bit of a journey for me until I understood how perfect 39mm is.

Or AP 15300, if you want a bit more substantial alternative at more acceptable budget.

    Also, IWC 3255 (Mark xvi).

    Bracelet or strap

I think my wrists are fairly average. I find the ideal size depends also a great deal on the strap/bracelet used. My Speedmaster Pro sits much better on the wrists when it's on a NATO or leather strap. The steel bracelet makes it seem even larger. Whereas the smaller Speedmaster reduced is more elegant on the steel bracelet.

Funny but I just realised this weekend by wearing the same watch, an old Fortis Official Cosmonauts Chronograph, that 38,5 mm is "visually" too small for my 17 cm wrist especially if the watch tends to wear small.
I seem to be more comfortable with 41mm to 44mm watches (must be a compensation thing ).

To be completely honest that looks like a perfect size for you!

38.6 mm actually is the perfect size for me.

I love that watch and it does look good on your wrist.

36 - 40 mm seems to be the sweet spot for me as well.
The "old" Certina DS-1 with its 39 mm case would be another candidate for this thread.

I find it amazing what an incremental difference makes!!

I had the 38.5mm Aqua Terra but found it too small!! Ended up with a 39mm Explorer and it seems a lot bigger - bizarre!!!

39 is my sweet spot also.

Never seen a rolex I liked. Never really liked any of the divers. And the dj and op were always too small as far as I was concerned. But the new 39mm 114300! Perfection!

39mm-40mm has always been one of my favorite sizes, although I will sometimes creep into larger territory with dive watches. These are four of my 39mm faves - I still have the HoroSwiss...

Don't move that on, you will regret it. Fantastic watch. 39mm my best size but always amazed how the same size can look bigger or smaller. Some of mine which have been seen in one form or another.

I have 7.4 inch wrists and 39mm is absolutely as far as I would want to go.

I've been wearing this watch all week. It measures 36mm and feels just right.

The section for hipsters, girls and effete ladyboys only. Real Men only wear 44mm and above, as any fule kno, and as for case width, well...
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

37mm i think, when i first wore it i thought it was too small but then it just grows on you until you realise you have been wrong about watch sizes all along

Thanks! A bit of Googling seems to show that it is a) 42 mm and b) a hell of a lot more expensive than the last time I looked at Poljots.

Still, the design and style is quite liveable with compared to many of the Russian chronos.

Its one of Eddies Broadarrows, that was reissued by Zeno after Eddie had to with draw the name. Basically its a PRS 3 Broadarrow with Zeno on the dial.

I think you may be right, after just buying an Explorer 39mm, I can't seem to take it off. All my watches are 39mm to 42mm depending on style very much determines the size I can wear.
But the explorer hits the sweet spot, either that or it's just because it's new and I like the shiny!
Still no photos or SOTC-2015, really need to find the time and sort something out

39mm is an ideal size for dress watches for me.
I tend to like 37-39mm for dress watches, but a little larger for sports/ divers watch, between 40-42mm, certainly no more than that

Totally agree with this! Since starting this thread I have also acquired a 37mm Grand Seiko and it seems the perfect size. Now even my Speedy is starting to look too big...

However the GMT Master II is also a very good one, but a bit larger on the wrist.
Love that strap, is it suede?
Goes very well with the white dial.

I've just gone for a new 39mm Longines Hydroconquest. It's the perfect size for me.
Hoping to pick it up over the weekend.

I've got an old style HC in 39mm.

It always used to amuse my how people seemed to sneer at it and insist on suggesting people buy the 'big' one, which is only 41mm.

As if most people would even notice 2mm difference (I know, their wives/girlfriends do - But then when it's 20% difference, I guess it's important! )

It's hard to be prescriptive, I think the HC works fine in 39mm, but some watches will look 'too small' to my eyes in that size (whilst some watches even smaller like OK).

I think any watch around 40mm works, but I can see how a big bloke (or lady, even) may find them a little small (and smaller people, a little too big).

For example, I might say the 39mm HC is fine, but it has quite a thick bezel which means the visible dial is smaller, whilst the 42mm Omega Speedmaster Pro has a thinner bezel, bigger dial, but still looks fine to me.
