Thread: It's finally happened. TV content.

    It's finally happened. TV content.

Our Sony 40 inch LED TV has had the screen smashed by our little monster, as in our daughter. The little git (affectionate usage before I get harrangued), used her Peppa pig tea case thing to whack the screen causing a small crack, which has caused the screen to have, around that area, vertically from top to bottom of the screen, red, green , blue lines as well as have some horizontal black lines on the screen when watching TV. Also text has a double image behind it. I will take a picture later on, but do you think I will be able to get someone to fix it or is it a goner?

I'd call the local Sony Centre for advice, but I would suspect that if it's out of warranty it will be cheaper to replace it or claim on home insurance.
Apart from that Rod is the resident AV specialist, I'm sure he can help.

Sounds like an insurance claim IMHO.

Or if you are worried about your premiums, just replace it - TVs are cheap enough these days, to not bother repairing and look at them as (another) disposable item.

Use the opportunity to upgrade - TVs are so cheap now it's crazy.

And explain why the telly is dead to the destroyer of worlds :)

She's only 2 years 9 months old. I think she realised she had done something wrong though. I was suprised my wife didin't blow her top, which she usually does. I had been looking at 65 inch tv stuff a few months back, but as she is in her destructive phase I thought if we can't fix it, may have to bring my old 720p, 27 inch Toshiba from upstairs.

I wouldn't be too worried about claiming on insurance for that, the premium will hardly move.

How old was the TV? (And how much?). I had a power board replaced in my panny plasma the other year (luckily 3m before the end of it's john Lewis 5yr warranty), would have cost £350 ish , so you imagine the cost of a new screen.
You can pick up a 4k job for decent money These days

Those curvy new sony's look quite nice, so might be a good excuse to get a new toy!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have updated original message with pictures.

If it's just the plastic/glass screen that's cracked it may be fixable, but if it's penetrated the LED/LCD then probably not.

new TV time, just face up to it and move on...............

it is not even worth the time wasted posting here about it, get a new tv from John Lewis with 5 year warranty, let the little person know what they done wrong, using expressions like 'DEAD' and 'YOU KILLED IT', even going as far as taking her to the dump to explain this is where all the TV's kids KILL end up,

a minute silence, and take a priest friend along for added drama, while playing the Exorcist sound effects CD in the car.

    that should do the trick.

Stick the new one on the wall, it's the only way to make sure it wont happen again!

Yeah we were planning on doing that but the TV stand would still be under it and she will stand on it and do the same.

why would you have a TV stand under a TV that is wall mounted?

So that his daughter can reach the screen to smash it again of course.

My son did this when he was about 2 1\2 yrs old. He sacked it with a hair brush, while watching the Teletubbies I think.

We were mortified and somewhat cross.

When I phoned the insurance people, the girl on the other end had a right laugh, then said don't worry as it happens all the time.

They sent an assessor around for a look, he had a laugh too and processed the claim.

We still have the replacement TV 5 years on, however, we have it mounted on the wall out of the way.

We bought a Decamount. Incredibility strong and sturdy.

OK, fair enough, but lets for one moment think outside of the box, you could wall mount the TV, get rid of the TV stand, place TiVo box, Xbox etc. away from underneath the TV (given your daughters destructive phase) and place them somewhere, I don't know like maybe a shelve unit (wall mounted of course) specifically designed to house TiVo box, Xbox etc.

as cables can be had in many different lengths nowadays, you could put them anywhere, and even go as far as using trunking to hide them, to give your home that professional look.

here's a nice one for £25 British pounds, that also incorporates a cable tidy feature,

Thanks for the suggestions soundood and Kidsteruk. Only thing is she is smart enough to get something long and whack it with it, whether the TV or the Tivo etc. She also has started pressing buttons on the Tivo and scrolling through things. Waiting for her to rent a few films by accident and me getting a Virgin media bill of a few tens of quid more.

I work for the channel shown on the pictures - not great marketing for us!
