Well for a start its based on a 1665 Double Red.
Well, it exists but you get my drift. Not justifying or promoting the whole fake thing but following on from a previous fake Rolex question, I bring you this 1680 'Sea Dweller'.......
Found at an Antique Fair yesterday, from a casual seller I know. It came on a new RAF NATO and set me back a whole non haggle £10.
The real story is that I know of someone who was taken for one like this, a Single Red for a LOT of money. He was convinced it was good, puffy creamy lume etc but knowing the path it took to his unfortunate possession, I, a non Rolex specialist knew it was wrong.
It took a 10 second assessment from a contact of mine in the trade to deliver the Coup de Grais.
He told me later that he'd got his money back but.........
Scary innit?
Well for a start its based on a 1665 Double Red.
It's just a matter of time...
Very nice for an Ayrton.
But it cannot be both, it cannot be a 1680 Submariner and a 1665 DRSD at the same time.
Someone has crossed two different models to come up with a watch that never existed in the first place.
Which happens a lot with fakes - I.e. The 18k gold case markings on the steel fakes.
It's just a matter of time...
Could the OP move the hands to quarter to three and post another image of the dial, so we can at least see which DRSD dial they were looking to copy, presumably a mark 3 or 4. Hate to say it, but from the image the dial looks worryingly good.
Inscription is perhaps the easiest give away.
Probably no hev either though.
It's just a matter of time...
Mark 4 onwards as italic font in depth readings.
Also, swiss made - were the hell did they get that from. Don't like the insert either.
But all in all, not bad for a tenner.
The new NATO would have cost a tenner!
Perverse I know, but this thing looks & wears sooooo good, especially on an Oyster bracelet, this could be an unexpected gateway to me pooling a few of mine & getting another maxi sub!
Currently on a black NATO and I feel dirty.......
Love the PCG! The guy who created this watch is extremely creative.
Thought those guys were getting smarter and better however the 1680 marking is just a stupid mistake..
my mate got one from a certain vintage repro website... it really does look naff
no patina and too new looking to be interesting but he wanted to scratch the double red itch
no doubt if he had the dosh he'd get a real one but he doesn't and there you go thats the supply demand
sad really as for the money he could've got a nice seiko
