+1......As a kid I grew up eating fish and chips in the 60s/early 70s. Nowadays it's hard to find good ones. Wetherby Whaler in Wakefield gets my vote and I might just call in tomorrow lunchtime!

As for killer food combinations........Curry + Yorkshire Pudding. Don`t knock it till you've tried it!

One opened in Doncaster this year, using proper dripping. Lovely. Based in the old Fire Station on Ledger Way. Eat in and takeaway.

Just as well it's over there, since if it was in Ireland, it'd be the south of the border, but nowhere near Titterary!

A conversation overheard between two gigantic American tourists at Copenhagen Central railway station a few years ago; "Fries with mayonnaise - how fattening is that?"
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

I shall be having this classic combo for breakfast in a moment :)

Dark chocolate and mint is a favourite. And less conventionally, marmite and honey on toast.

Breakfast of champions that is Sir.

I'd also like to add kiwi and banana drizzled with honey and whipped cream on pancakes to the list. Also hot apples and cinnamon on pancakes.

    Yes, I like pancakes! :-)

My lunch at least 2 days a week :-)

At the moment, caused by a lack of any food in the fridge, I've been enjoying ryvita with a bit of butter, peanut butter and jam. Which is unbelievably moreish :-D

Scrambled duck eggs on toast with a slice of corned beef. I very rarely eat bacon or sausages so it's the closest I get to a fried breakfast.

Here's a left field one; salted peanuts tipped into a bag of salted crisps. Don't ask me why it works, but it does.

Fresh, sweet tomatoes, lovely ripe avocado with Mozarella di Bufala, sprinkled with Balsamic di Modena and fresh olive oil, with some fresh Ciabatta to go with it !

That's just the starter (my absolute favourite - and ordering it whilst enjoying our stays in Cataluna.... )
(almost forgot, with a bottle of Verdejo or Albarino to accompany !)

I'm amazed you get served a dish made with an Italian cheese, Italian bread and Italian vinegar in Catalonia, especially when you can have Pa amb tomàquet.

Well I love my food and could offer up many exotic delicacies, but in the spirit of this thread, here is my "seems-odd-but-it-tastes-great" combo :

It is ...............Baked beans and mayonnaise sandwiches ........with a sprinkling of black pepper !!.

Salted sardines or anchovy (instead of bacon) and eggs, integral toast with butter, honey and cinnamon,
    gunpowder tea.

Just-poached eggs, dark soy sauce, kaya and buttered toast. Black tea or coffee.
