Love!
Any Jocke.......it's the Crown Guard for me too, closely followed by Sandwich Dial
Great photo as usual
Love!
Waiting patiently!
Great photo!
I'll take the bait:
After service issues / nightmares. Brand built on Valjoux 7750s with half the parts left out or Unitas calibres. Ludicrous prices.
I know they now have their own movement designs, but with all the negative threads on the service centre - seriously, why buy one?
Being different..and long may it continue
Too big (for me).
I just tried a 372 (47mm). On the bedside table, on a Micah Dirkson strap, it was probably the best looking watch I have ever seen. Then I put it on, and just couldn't like the look of it.
Wearing a 36mm DJ right now, sadly that's my size :(
Had one, flipped it, want another
The first thing I think of - business idea.
Find a company, probably in Birmingham, that made the buttons used on British battledress during the Second World War. Buy this company. Close the manufacturing facility and start production in China. Advertise these buttons as those worn by the RAF during the Battle of Britain, preferably using grainy, black and white photographs of chaps standing near Spitfires. Pricing policy - forget cost plus and apply pure Veblen theory.
Intersting comment and so differcult to disagree with , applys to others as well !!
I've always like the Ferrari Panerai's. Great dials, some funky colours, great case profiles. The brushed bezel against the top polished case. Yum.
5ft 3" max
Yes well having said that i do like the Radamir Historic series black seal as i like a secound hand !!
Like the watches. Just not what the Swiss have done with the brand.
I like Panerai. I like Bremont too.
.....and Seiko.

Brilliant pic Jocke.
As usual Jocke, great picture.
With regards to Panerai the first thing I think of is this ain't gonna fit my wrist, which is a shame as I love the clean clear dials and style.
If I'm honest the first thing I think of when I hear the word Panerai is Stallone and that spoils it for me.
It's complicated... I know I would probably not even know of the brand if it weren't for Stallone and I don't even particularly dislike the guy. I like some of the designs, particularly the earlier simpler ones. I've owned a 312. If I were to buy another it might be an 005 or an 029. But the worry for me is that people would think I was wearing one because I wanted to be Stallone. As much as I like to think I choose and wear watches based one what I like/want, the association would worry me and if I were spending that much on a watch I would like it to be worry-free.
I am (a) shallow (b) over-thinking it and I should just get over it I know.
I have a big birthday next year and much of the above is what's tipping me towards an Aqua Terra rather than the 005.
Large, domed, distinctive, uncluttered, polarising.
Don't worry, I wouldn't think you were wearing it because you wanted to be Stallone, I'd think you were wearing it because you wanted to be Jason Statham in The Transporter.*
* Statham has evidently seen the error of his ways, a recent photospread in a magazine showed him wearing an Explorer 1 (36mm version).
Different, original, distinctive, easy to read, Italian... But unfortunately also a bit "yesterday's fashion statement in Canary Wharf"... Let's hope the future is bright for the brand.
The first thought for me still would be the distinctive case but based on this thread- the thoughts to follow would be related to misinformation, ignorance, envy and grown men with their panties in a bunch!
overprices, big, watches :) that's what first comes to my mind.
Steroids?
Nice watch
I don't get all the "over priced" posts??
Realisticly arnt all the watches we buy over priced??
1950's case and the Expendables!
Oversized. Would love a clean, simple sandwich dial at one point, but I really don't think I could ever be comfortable with the size of most of them.
Do I want one? I don't want one. Maybe I do?
I've seen plenty of the them on the Classic Yacht Regatta circuit, they are series sponsors and always have plenty of them on display.
About a year or so ago, I was obsessed with the Panerai 372 - that's a 47mm model.
Now, isn't there a 50-something model?I know, James - it looks ridiculous, doesn't it? I mean, there's a bit of foreshortening, but even still! I wore a 44mm Panerai for years, and the Seiko Landmaster is 45mm, but still, that 47mm Panerai looks ridiculous. I'm actually really pleased that I took the time to go and try it one. Now I'm not obsessing!
I think of the case shape first.
I have a 6.25" wrist and found the 372 just marginally too big for me, although of course these watches weren't originally made 47mm because the divers all had tree trunk wrists, so maybe wrist size/case size is not as much of an issue compared with other large watches?
My 44mm 590 is just right though. Still has the presence and looks but fits more comfortably.
quality~
I used to be a fan of this brand, though I never owned one...still enjoy watching others wearing this, but heard tooo many about the quality and the "overpricing" cliche ..so I keep enjoy watching from a distant...
1/ Poor customer service and reliability.
2/ Too many models and 'special editions' (as bad as Omega).
3/ Over-priced 'in-house' models.
4/ Some great classic, historic designs and I would probably buy one if 1 to 3 above didn't apply. :)
Stylish. Alternative. Big. Straps. Footballers.
