New On The Wrist: Another Patek

I saw there was recent post on here about the Aquanaut, so here's another. I picked this up in October but a combination of forgetting it was buried at the back of my safe and some other pieces hogging wrist time mean i only started wearing it last month. Boy was that a mistake, this has to be one of the most comfortable watches i have ever owned and surprisingly a great watch to wear on those hot summer days. The dimensions and modest thickness of the case couple together with the gorgeous tropical strap mean this sits beautifully on the wrist and slips under a shirt cuff with ease. It's extremely versatile and can be dressed up or down with a suit or jeans. With the case shape there's no doubt there's a touch of Genta inspiration behind this model and the contrasting brushed vs. polished finish has more than a little similarity to the Royal Oak. I believe the connection ends there.......in contrast to the RO which wears larger than its case suggests, this actually wears slightly smaller than the 40mm case this 5167A comes in. All in all i've been completely bowled over by this watch, one i had my eye on for some time but found myself reluctant to pull the trigger on. Better late than never as they say and my entry into the Patek world has not disappointed.

    And with my 15202:

Love the shot with the RO, always wondered if my shrinking collection could stand a RO (or ROO) alongside my Nautilus chrono without too much duplication. Perhaps it could...

I'm so glad it was buried at the back of the safe and not a sock drawer. What an amazing thing to forget you own!

I once found a jar of Patak's curry in the back of the cupboard.

Great looking watch. I'm really coming around to the look of these - which probably does not bode well for my bank account.

Congratulations, the 5167 is a great choice.

But more unbelievable is that you forgot that you had it. ;)

Looks great Darren. Particularly like the comparison with the 15202.

While you can see the similarities between the two designs, they are both completely different. The dial colour and bracelet vs rubber will work really well for the rotation between the two.

Must admit, I prefer the AP though

    Enjoy mate

Nice Aquanaut, always been my favourite PP sports watch.

This post reminds me of the character Mark Williams used to do on The Fast Show?

"And then... One afternoon, I was just rummaging around in the back of the walk in safe and I found this lovely Patek Philipe....

    Which was nice"

I'm sure it could stand a RO/ROC and a VCO chrono since none will look similar other than the outline of the bracelet, and certainly not the dials, nor the bezels.

It's a lot of cash tied up in steel sports watches though Phil; I consider my 5980 to be the best there is so I'd be buying something 'second best' in my head... So is there a point...

The Royal Oak is probably the only steel bracelet watch I would wear with a suit and not feel like a savage ;)

Sure, but you'd admit that you're in a vanishingly small minority there, aren't you? The vast majority of people really don't have a problem with a steel bracelet:suit combo.

That Sir - is a gorgeous find at the back of your safe! A Patek for the summer - and winter, with enough water resistance so you can wear it in the pool if you want. Superb.

Black and white. Ebony and ivory. Right or wrong.
I come to think of many resembling comparisons to the obvious difference between the two pieces there.
Great pair, really top notch. No need for anything else...

Then they should. Anarchy is descending; one fictional spy in a movie does it and suddenly it's 'OK'.
I don't have to do it because I have more than one watch - if someone only has one watch, then fine, they have no choice.

To make the choice to be deliberately inappropriate; gosh, how wacky! He's mad he is, proper mental, 'lol' etc. Look, flip flops with a dinner jacket again. I'm mad, me.

In actuality of course - who cares? I enjoy a watch with a suit or cuffed shirt with a strap that matches my shoes. That's just me, and I enjoy the banter around it :)

Simple ROs, VC Overseas, Nautilus, the odd IWC ingy - all of them work TBH, all of them Genta influenced.

The perfect reply. Must have been left there by the previous generation.

Lovely, I still have your old Royal Oak 15300. I am tempted to add a Nautilus of some description soon.
