Thread: SPECTRE

  1. #101
    not impressed.
Action scenes were reasonable, but not enough of them, anti climax ending, product placement was dire, may as well bring back old school cinemas with a reel change break, sell icecreams while showing Ads on screen.
DC has the charisma and wit of a plank, MB looked as if she didn't want to be there, but had already cashed the cheque.

And the the bad guy had a better car looking car than JB

Thanks!! for that perspective. I passed that film over. I was asked to accompany charming company but politely declined and the feedback did not make me regret it.

I thought Spectre was an absolute load of crap and left before the end. Utter rubbish drivel.

I doubt it's that bad, someone is taking it a little too seriously.

Mrs Megatron and I went out for date night to see SPECTRE last night and have to say we both really really enjoyed it. As good as Skyfall for me and I liked how it tied it together somewhat. Connery was the Bond of my youth but I think Daniel Craig is just as good.

You know there are people who leave before the end of the football matches at City and I've always used the " you wouldn't pay good money to watch a film and leave early " analogy. Seems Im wrong after all!
Thanks for your in depth review

No one goes to watch a Bond movie in order to see a thought provoking intelligent movie but at least the classic Bond films had a certain charm-
these recent ones including Spectre are just very boring and the scripts are atrociously bad. If I were Sam Mendes or Daniel Craig I'd be embarrassed
to put my name to such commercial nonsense- no wonder Craig has said he'd rather slash his wrists than do another Bond- I'd rather slash my wrists
    than watch another Bond film.......

If anyone should feel inclined to watch an amazing movie search out the following on DVD: this is a proper film-it's not product placement dour dribble like Spectre.

Loved Spectre for what it is. The Bond franchise delivered in every sense and made for great entertainment. Never understood movie critics to be honest. Guess I'm not one with great expectations when it comes to movies, but if an action movie delivers on entertainment, I leave the cinema happy.

I enjoyed it had a bit of everything from past Connerys toughness ,Rogers humour bit of Jaws a dash of Blofeld, car scenes were good if short and shame rear machine gun wasn't loaded a real shame Monica Beluchi was in it for just 60 seconds.

I think it needs a second watch to get it all.

Now then at the premier is it me or was Daniel Craig wearing a Rolex (omega will be pleased ) DC is a big Vintage Rolex collector but you would have expected him to honour the sponsors ?

Just saw it and it was ok but I was expecting more.
How they set up the jokes was some how "amateurish".
You could see miles ahead what joke was coming and the timing of the jokes were off.
Also the acting wasn't really that good.
DC looked like he wasn't even trying.
MB some how forgot that she actually knows how to act.
Waltz did the role everyone was expecting. Nothing more, nothing less.
I'm actually going to see it again soon because I have free tickets. Maybe second time it'll be better.

Watched it last night. Kind off deflated, I guess my expectations were too high.

There were several editing goofs that I noticed, but on a positive I did like the references to the previous Bond characters, and history.

    So saw it mid week.

Script was a little poor, one liners didn't land well IMO

Christopher Waltz was not used to his full potential in any way shape or form for me, skyfall used the silva villain very well and Bardem was superb but sadly I don't think they gave anywhere enough screen time to waltz who is a terrific actor

The stunts were good, no question

The henchman had no words in the movie and although his 1st scene pretty much gave you a sense of what he was all about, again he wasn't used enough or I in the right way for me.

Now all of the above said, I felt the same way about Skyfall when I left the cinema but then watching it back at home loved it.........I'm hoping the same thing will happen with Spectre......well here's hoping anyway

    Cool

    oi oi dave!!

    nice to see you back!

I watched it last night and I have to say it's on par with casino! I hate the cinema with a passion, and this was worth it!
I'm a huge bond fan, the slight nods to previous films were really good, who got The Man with the Golden Gun towards the end?

if you've watched HMSS you should have a fair idea of what's coming up in the next film, Craig's last.. the fact that they've started rebooting with M,Q and now this should lead to some great and interesting ideas.

I'd really like them to go with the novels as well, but their too out of date now i think, you'd need to reset it into the Cold War 50s for it to work.

It's a massive win for me after sky fall which was a bit meh, they should have kept sky fall between M and silva and not tried to tie it in, that would have worked better personally but there you go..

I watched it. MB looked better in the Matrix, but I'd still go through her like a van with no brakes.

    The film wasn't anything special.

I've often mentioned this myself and it's one reason I find the early Connery Bonds the best, they are in pretty much the right era as the novels.

Not seen it yet so can't comment on film itself there is a current bit of gossip that Matt Weiner of Mad Men might be involved and maybe have it set in 1960's....

I think it's tittle tattle that won't come to anything at all f course ..let alone all the companies like Land Rover that won't be able to sell new cars off the back of it and so on means will never happen....

I did like the concept of it though, I know man from UNCLE didn't do much which was a shame as that could have been a good franchise... (I'm a huge vintage 1960s fan)

Went and saw it yesterday afternoon with the family.

Really loved it, I like the way DC portrays the dark side of Bond.

  31. #131
    Yup, iMax Glasgow, good enough film, you can see the next one though;
Blofeldt escapes, kills Bonds squeeze, Bond straps back on his gun belt.
(He'll need to dive into the Thames to get his wee gun back though!)

Just back from seeing it. I never normally like the Bond films straight away but I did like this one; usually takes me a few times to know if I like them or not. Same with Casino Royale; didn't like it at first but it's now one of my favourite films.

There was something "lacking" overall and I think it was Christoph Waltz. Not his fault, but in Inglorious Basterds, he's incredible. That opening scene is one of the most tense of all time. Spectre didn't allow him to shine like this though and anybody could have played the part.

Other than that though, really enjoyable and boy did they make that SM300 desirable!!

Let me put it this way: I was amazed that the 150 or so minutes flew by as if it was a 90 mins flick. Imho, the movie really holds its ground between the other Bond movies.

Now, after Skyfall there was a lot about his coat(s) from Barbour. In this film, one should pay attention to Craig's shoes! Great lineup of shoes!

I took the three stooges (aka sons - ages 17, 14, 13) to see Spectre last night at the local VUE 4K big screen.

We all enjoyed it, 2h 25m passed very quickly.

Monica Belluci - very pleasing for a gentleman of a certain age :)

Perhaps you should watch some of his work , you probably had a problem with a female M and a black Moneypenny too, plus a Scottish, Australian Bond too. Every Bond has come under scrutiny with Daniel Craig creating most controversy but at least he wasn't critiqued by a bigot

I've seen him in a few things and I'm not in the slightest impressed by his acting, to me he would find his level on Eastenders, certainly not on the big screen as James Bond. As for the other characters, I found Judy Dench to be very good as M and the new Moneypenny was great in the last film and under used this time round, but at my age and how I see James Bond the whole thing will lose something if they make that big a change.

Forget Idris Elba, I'm taking about James Bond, and speaking purely from how I've seen him and have thought about him, James Bond has always been white, so there's not much I can do about that. The same would apply when they eventually reboot the Men in Black films, the lead should always be played by the good looking black guy of the day, it just wouldn't work for me any other way.

He's annoying enough on the Sky advents lasting less than a minute, never mind watching him for over two hrs.

I don't think I will bother with Bond any more after this. Just not sure what it is trying to be. I enjoyed Casino Royal but Sky fall was boring and so was this. Honestly just a waste of 2+ hours. Usually I can get why a film is liked by others even if I don't like it, just can't see what was in it that anyone would like......
