£1000-£1300 depending on condition. Bracelets can be had for £300 ish and you are looking at £200 ish for a basic service.
I'm looking to buy the above from a friends Dad. The watch is a 1990 model moon watch and comes as the head only with no box or paperwork. Condition is good but far from mint as its been his daily wearer.
I'm looking for a price that would be good for both of us.
I realise it is difficult as I haven't posted a picture but I need a price range to start a discussion.
Cheers Chris

A full service from Omega costs £450 these days and probably about £250 from an independent.

I agree with this.
£1000 is its money all day long.
A minter with bracelet and service is prob about £1600-1750
A decent one with bracelet, box and no service is £1300-1500 so you'd be daft to buy an unknown quantity for more than £1000 IMHO
£1000 is its money all day long.
This ^^ possibly £900 if its tatty.
I sold my nice 1985 one, original bracelet and papers for £1200. As said a nice one on bracelet with a full set might only be £1500.
"£1000-£1300 depending on condition"
What condition would it need to be in to get £1300 with no bracelet or strap, no box or paperwork?
I might pay £1300 if Buzz Aldrin personally delivered it.
Less than £1000 - more like £750 if the thing is to be serviced.
I think some of the estimates are a little low.
Friendly challenge: if some one can find an example of a moon watch sold in 2015 "good but far from mint condition", I'll contribute to the fundraiser:
£10 for an example less than £1300
£20 for an example less than £1000
If I've been looking in the wrong places for watch prices, the info will be worth it
Anyone who thinks this is worth less than £1000 is describing a fantasy world. The likes of which perhaps only the dear Camila Batmanghelidjh of the disgraced Kids Company charity could possibly relate to.
£1000 tidy example.
£1300 NOS or close to.
OP, when you said head only did you mean without bracelet? Just curious.
£50 finders fee for a good speedy at the prices quoted :D
Have you read the description?
A watch head, without box papers or bracelet and no service history.
It's worth £1000.
A complete watch is worth more. It's NOT a complete watch.
It's worth £1000.
£900 - £1000.
As posted above (quote system inoperative)
"OP, when you said head only did you mean without bracelet? Just curious."
Could someone explain what else ‘head only’ could mean, apart from the watch head, on its own?
How can a tatty head-only be worth £1300 when a great condition full set sold on SC for £1700 last week including a spare leather deployant?
It's £1000ish. I think you'd get more on eBay, but fees etc would mean you'd return less imo
I was simply asking the OP to clarify the status of the bracelet that may have been originally supplied with the watch.
To be quite frank, anyone who sells one for £1200 with B&Ps has had either their pants pulled down, doesn't care about money, or wanted a convenience sale.
I'd love it if someone could find a complete watch actually for sale so cheaply, not just one belonging to some Archie Luxury type who sold it to a dealer. A dealer who will have subsequently sold it on for a worthwhile profit.
Since we are talking prices, how much for:
Speedmaster Pro 1996
Bracelet needs refurb
Tritium dial
Needs service
Original B&P
Fair enough, but that was a sale to a jewellers.
I suspect:
1) they resold it for more then £1200
2) you would have got more then £1200 on SC for it.
No one likes them anymore,so you will forever struggle to sell it.
Luckily for you I don't care about all that nonsense.......So pass me your bank details and you will be £500 richer, how lucky do you feel now.
I also like to help others wherever possible....I'm just like that I guess.
Put a wtb up for a full set, like I have done before, or wait for one to come up, like I have also done before, and you'll pick one up for around £1,600 - £1,700 defending on condition and history. Just do a search and you'll see the examples. They can go for £1,500 but they go fast and will likely need to go off for a service sooner rather than later if history is unknown.
So at £1,500 for a daily wearer full set on bracelet, minus £300 for service, minus £300 for bracelet, minus whatever value you would put on B&P say £100-£200 and you're left with a head only value of around £800.
I wouldn't even pay £1k for a head only that needs to be serviced. Why bother? If it's been serviced then yes, add £300 for the bracelet and at £1,300 without B&P you've done ok. Not a steel but you wouldn't have been bent over.
Honestly, don't pay more than £800 as you don't want your service plus bracelet cost to bring it over £1,300
Could someone explain what else ‘head only’ could mean...
No 'half'n'half', no 'around the world', definitely no 'kissing on the mouth' & absolutely no chance of a 'brown strap'
As I keep seeing in various threads people quoting prices for watches in sales corner and they appear a lot cheaper than any other sources I look at on the net, I really must get my post count up so I can post a wtb!
Just to qualify my earlier comment whilst a few of you are getting all giddy.
Firstly, this is a loose watch - head only of uncertain provenance except it has allegedly been worn daily.
Given that there are no papers or box and indeed bracelet this wipes the replacement cost of these off what (typically) a moon watch might realise on Sales Corner.
it is currently of unknown vintage and it is unclear if the current owner is the only or successive owner.
On that basis it should really be put in for a service which again wipes money off what a sorted one should go for - figures have been quoted earlier.
if anybody is happy to pay £1k on the basis of what I have just typed then crack on, personally it's what I posted earlier.
Just as an idea of pricing:
Only last month did I pass on my 1995 speedy pro to another forum member. It was full box, papers, service history, bracelet, spare links etc, even threw in a few straps. The price? £1300...
Its what I acquired it for on this fantastic forums very own SC, and in the spirit of the forum wanted someone else to appreciate it at that price. Money does mean a lot to me but I didn't want to profiteer having acquired it for such a good price in the first place. I loved every minute of owning it but was time to move it along.
They can can be had for sensible money. The one the OP is looking at imo as head only and no bracelet or service history = £900 max. And at that money, if it keeps good time and winds ok wear it on a NATO and enjoy the pleasure of owning an iconic piece. It won't ever fail to bring a smile to your face when you look at it, and many times you'll have to look twice as when you first glance to get the time you won't, you'll be distracted by the dial!
I picked up a mint 2009 example, bracelet, box and papers, last year for a grand. Shot a guy a message on eBay and got lucky!
Did you get any further with the Speedy purchase Wigan Bear?
