CCTV of man trying to steal a soft top Porsche 911 in Mayfair

Apparently he then tried to steal some trainers from JD Sports?!
This guy is certainly not very bright.

    That red cabrio is hideous!

That looks to me like a Covin replica, if so, the guy would be very dissapointed if he had of stolen it!

Saying that he does not seem like the sharpest tool in the box!

How refreshing to see high quality CCTV footage that might actually result in a positive identification.

It's a genuine Porsche, and quite a rare one at that, but the ugliest 911 of them all, the "Slantnose" cabrio of the mid 80's.

Saw this a little earlier, baffles me how someone does this and especially at 7:45 in the morning with people walking by

It always amazes me that in the world we live in with 80mp cameras on your mobile phone, the CCTV footage they show on crime watch looks like its been shot on an old 90's JVC camcorder with a sock pulled over the lens.

Coving used to make a Flachbau replica. Not saying it definitely is one but the proportions seem wrong on that video

It does not look like an original flatnose 911 to me....having said that though of all the places you'd expect
to find fake's kicking around Mayfair would be low on the list...maybe the thief jumped out simply because he
was disgusted to realise it was not an original?

That is a proper ugly mess. Must say I've never heard of replica 911s before.

Technically they are kit cars, based on beetles, but some people go the whole hog and stick badges on (and even fit the engines in some cases!)

It's the same as the cobra/356/countach etc, building replicas of cars no longer produced (thus copyright issues are avoided) but they seldom look convincing.....

I’m similarly amazed. Some of the CCTV-derived images in news appeals are so bad that I sometimes wonder if it is deliberate, for some reason to do with correct identification processes.

That is no slant nose. The body work is all wrong, the fibre glass mouldings are cheap and the cabrio cover isn't correct.

It's a 930 Turbo Slantnose by Strosek, I've walked past it a few times and have a couple of photos somewhere.

Why would you , in the process of nicking a car, cause £5,000 worth of damage , when knocking a window in( £350? ) would be much easier and attract less attention and make the car more sale-able to your chosen "fence " ????

    And it is beautiful!

I used to have photos of the tuning house 911s in my childhood bedroom wall.
Gemballa and B+B were my favourites, along with the AMG 'Hammer' and konig testarossa.
