    Its the same in many jewellers that I visit for watches

    I don't like being judged as to my ability to afford a watch by someone paid to wear a uniform ;-)

    They certainly didn't have anything more valuable than the Goldsmiths offering with a complete open fronted shop entrance!

    Yep, same here in Denmark. If they carry Omega or above, a bell and a buzz in is required. I think it is fair, alot of them have watches on display and it would be a pain to have alarms on each and every one of them. Maybe it is for insurance purposes as well.
