Well at the 4th attempt I got it yesterday !!! Clean sheet too, no minors. What a relief. Onto Mod 2 end of next week.
Any advice from any of our seasoned bikers ?

Experiences will vary, but honestly I found the mod 1 harder than the mod 2. If you're a sensible rider and have good road sense, you'll fly through. It also helps to ride around the area local to the test centre, get used to the speed limits, the typical trap junctions/blind corners and for the love of all, don't cut over any painted roundabouts! Best of luck.
I'm glad I only had to do the CBT and DAS course. So much more to pass these days!
Apart from the obvious (stick to speed limits etc.) make it obvious that you are scanning ahead and around you, particularly with the life-savers.
Observation critical as always but watch your lane discipline particularly on larger roundabouts.

Mod 2 is a piece of psss compared to 1, you already know how road driving works so it's way easier than nailing the technicals of getting the bloody bike stopped and started correctly!
As said, just watch your speed and do tons of head movements to emphasize your observation. And don't wheelie!

I done my mod one and two last year. Passed mod 1 first time but failed mod two once. My advice would be to be fully aware of the speed limits around the area your doing your test. I opened the bike up before I'd left a residential area when it should have been a 30 and failed for speeding (oops!). Anyhow nailed it the next time! Good luck, keeping your speed in check is the only advice I can give!

Can't help I,m afraid, in my day when I took mine a guy would jump out for emergency stop and if you didn't hit him you passed, certainly a lot tougher nowadays, a mate passed his test last year though and did say the mod 1 was the hardest part so fingers crossed you should be fine. Well done, onwards and upwards, crap time of the year to do it regarding the weather, but on the plus side less folk doing the same so booking your mod 2 should not take weeks in advance to get it booked, good luck with it.

I did the Mod 2 with 2 of us on the test - the other rider went the wrong way coming off a roundabout and I dont think we saw him again.

Speed limits, especially 40 to 30mph and vice versa.
Good luck with your mod 2. i would agree with a lot of the advice already given, make sure you do all of your life savers and lots of head movements to prove your checking over your shoulder, a glance in your mirrors is not enough. obviously stick to speed limits and if you go on a dual-lane road, and if safe to so do, try and get up to the road speed limit. you don't want to fail for dawdling behind some old granny. other than that it's general common sense for good road use.

If your instructor's any good, he/she will tell you all you need to know. Listen to them and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Thats exactly why I bought it... Cos its the bike i was learning on.
Even went for the ABS option, which saved me xmas week, when someone pulled out on me (literally).
Tricked it a little with a tail tidy and piperx exhaust givi screen and crash bungs (and small plate)...
One thing I'll say, don't buy a 200bhp modified blade for your first bike. I did and it scares the crap out of me lmao. I've been riding 4 years now and still can't understand how on earth you can use a 200bhp bike on the road!!
(Slight lie, I had a 600 for a few months first and wanted something with more low rev grunt, the blade wasn't the answer!! Looks and sounds like nothing else though)

Don't pop a wheelie, not even if you drop off the back of the bike as you do and run behind a little whilst holding onto the grips, then slide back on as if nothing happened.

If you can't clearly hear the instructions from your tester just keep riding don't deviate, I had two instances on my test where the comms were playing up, I heard part of the instruction but not all of, it would have been all to easy to panic and make a turn or a manover that was not asked for, I could tell in the tone of the guys voice it pissed him off, but nothing he could do about because I had done nothing wrong.
As I'm sure you are aware there is a part of the test where no running commentary is given, you will get an instruction for example "I would like you to follow the signs for the town centre" this seems to panic folk a bit, just take your time (don't go too slow if it's a 30mph zone and the road condition allow do 30, same applies when you get in the national speed zones they want to see forward progress very easy to start building up minor point this way)

Got cancelled last minute due to storm Gertrude. Pity, I'd been out riding all morning and was right up for it. Examiner went out by himself and came back and said no way.
