Maybe they should have stuck with the 156 based on a Lemania 5100...
I wouldn't condemn millions of movements produced since 1974 as unfit for purpose on the basis of one experience. (Also I don't think the 7750 was designed with military use in mind, whatever Sinn's "marketing" department thinks.)

It was probably a Friday watch. The Germans are as perfectly capable of cocking up relatively simple mass-production engineering as anybody else.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

    Your biggest disappointment so far?
A certain "Swiss" brand that will go unnamed.

    why be coy? :?

i think everyone here understands that one bad watch does not/should not reflect on any brand in its entirety...

Biggest disappointment for me were a couple of supposedly New Old Stock Seiko chronos I bought off Ebay maybe 10 years ago. Eddie and I still laugh about it when the subject comes up and we still use the vendor's name to describe anything that's not quite as described! In short, they were bodged together pieces of cr*p!!

Eddie kindly took them off my hands as they were driving me nuts.

Biggest wow factors on opening the box of a newly arrived watch were a NIB plastic Sea Dweller back in 1980 odd and the PRS-53. On opening the PRS I simply thought, 'perfect'.

    Cheers

Tissot Seastar 1000. It's cheap for a reason.

Biggest positive surprises would include most Seikos I've had the pleasure to experience.
    Great bang for the buck.

Biggest disappointment was probably a UTS Chrono...nice and big and chunky and a little too agricultural for my refined taste

Mmmm....I was very impressed with the new ceramic GMT, Ebel BTR Chrono, Seiko SBDX001, SBDX005, and probably a few others that I can't remember!

    Sanjay :)
