16750 ?
Original dial or later ? Condition of dial ?

Fish Brothers Chelmsford
Have a nice Rolex GMT 1981 for £3,550 in the window looks a cracker. No papers but has a box.
Due to my car problems, all resources need to be carefully managed!
Other than working in Chelmsford I have no connection with the business.

I can't believe this is still in the jewellers window, so I went in and tried it on today. The watch has been serviced by Rolex and is in fantastic condition for its age. A bit of stretch in the bracelet but for a 35 year old watch its not bad. Not sure I could live with a Pepsi bezel? Does seem there is not a lot of love for GMT's in my town.
Matt dial, or replacement surround dial?
Looks nice, but there's some damage to the text on the dial and the insert doesn't look original.
I wonder how many phone calls he's had trying to buy it!
Yep, looks alright to me!
Matt dial - very nice and a good price.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Don't www.ukspecialistwatches.co.uk have one for £5,990 at the moment ? <cough>
As for the bezel insert, it's a £40-odd part and easily changed, so don't let that make or break a deal.

Go for it
I know I'm being picky because it appears to be a great price but those lug chamfers look a bit enthusiastically polished.
Nice watch if you can live without the papers. If it's been for a service at Rolex as stated its a bit of a bargain really...get it bought someone!
Just spoke to the shop. Watch is on hold for someone collecting today.
No Wonder...it's in the Region of a "bargain of the year"....
No 'Date' text after Oyster Perpetual, a la Magnum PI?
The matt dial makes my US pals £2800 wgs 1984 b&p'd one look ordinary!

That top left lug does look extremely polished though, unless it's a trick of the shot. It's a great price but the shop don't strike me as being in the habit of under pricing or not knowing what they're doing. As Haywood has often been seen to say, the value of the watch is in the dial, but I do wonder if that case hasn't been polished to within an inch of its life
I have seen it as well in the flesh and it looks peachy.
I wonder if someone from the forum managed to get it
I got some pics a few days ago via email, but there's some text missing from the dial (the damage mentioned), the lugs look quite polished, and the insert is replaced. Also the dial plots are very white, which makes me slightly suspicious of a service dial. Give that mint ones with B&P were going on SC for £4.4k or so, I thought I'd pass. Very tempted though...
Still a matte dial though rather than a later luminova replacement? Does the handset also look a little 'wabified'?
I must admit I was tempted by this watch to the point of calling them. The insert to me looks like a Rolex one so no biggy there and it would be fun hunting around on vrf for a faded insert. The main thing bothering me is still the polished case. Looks like it's potentially had a hard life.
Quick heads up that as of yesterday this was still available. I called them to see if it had been picked up and it hadn't so they took it off hold. I'm very tempted but it's ine hell of a drive and I don't have the time, and would want to see the dial before purchasing. Also worth noting that it hasn't been serviced by Rolex but by an independent that they use.
Can you post the pics you were emailed ddm27? It might satisfy the curiosity of a few of us.
I called, they seemed to think that the three calls they'd had meant they were inundated, I was told I'd be sent pics... this was 5 days ago

As others have noted, there appears to be some missing text in the lower half of the dial. For me (there being no "right answer"), it makes the watch probably fair value at the price rather than the bargain it might first have appeared.

Here you go. The handset is also not in great condition. I was interested in this watch but knowing my ocd I would already be looking at restoring the dial, replacing the handset with a trit set matching the dial and restoring the set with booklets etc. Not cheap when all added up. I would also want to see evidence of the service that was carried out by speaking to the people that did it and checking their reputation. Add that all up equals bit of an expensive ball ache
Oh, and sourcing a correct faded insert as well.
If anyone wants the full HD shots I was sent then drop me a PM.
That really doesn't look too great to me. The crown guards are over polished, hard to tell if the lugs are the same but they probably will be. Anyone looking for one would be better off waiting for another IMO. Definitely not the bargain it initially appeared.
At least they've priced it fairly unlike that black £6k example from UK Specialist Watches.
Are you referring to the same Rolex GMT 16750 and same ukspecialistwatches discussed in this thread :

Anyone searching for a review of www.ukspecialistwatch.co.uk will probably find themselves reading it.

Yep, sure would be useful if anyone googling "review" "www.ukspecialistwatch.co.uk" / "ukspecialistwatches" were to come across this review of UK Specialist Watches: http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...tand-now/page6.
