New member, should have done this first!

Hi, my name's Matt. I've had the following watch since 2003 which was an engagement present from my Fiancee (at the time obviously):

Since 2003 by D_redd, on Flickr

I have two other watches from before, which I'll post up once I've got to grips with Flickr :)

Recently added an Eddie to the collection and couldn't resist the Jura sale at the end of last week. I can see how this could become an addictive hobby.

I am here to learn and will probably post what might seem stupid questions, but please bear with me.

    Thanks

    :)

    Welcome Matt,
Take the first couple of weeks here easy as we can be a touch direct at times, but other than that enjoy the ride.

Ok, the image didn't appear in my post so clearly need to have a fiddle with Flickr. Here's an old watch from my teens:

    Time Chain by D_redd

Thank you both :) Yeah, I've noticed how 'direct' members can be, I'll go easy!

    Welcome Matt

As has been said already, ease yourself in over a few weeks as some of the parish can be a little prickly. It's a great place to learn, try, buy and.......ignore (that function is excellent).

    Enjoy

Welcome, and before posting stupid questions (which someone has probably previously done already, so sparing your blushes), spend time reading and searching – there’s more than plenty to absorb, clue yourself up on, and help shape your preferences about what you like going forward.
You’ll also learn about various brands/models you won’t have seen/see in the typical High Street resellers.

Ok, found the BB code, but had to do it on my PC not from my phone:

    A little?
They have more prickles than a field full of mature cactuses!

Things and words to avoid using, in no particular order of demerit:
    "Lads"
    L33t and txt speak
Poor grammar and spelling. Oh, and punctuation too!
Starting a thread with a link to a video or other website, without some form of preface about what it is that you want to have addressed or looked at.
"Educate me" – that’s a real blood boiler!
Quoting a post with a ream of photos – choose one and remove the rest, if you must quote at all. This one is especially annoying when yours is the very next post.
Don’t suggest ideas to improve the site – you’ll only be ‘advised’ to tell Eddie, and after the 450th time, it’s probably worn thin.

Welcome Matt. You'll learn loads and probably flip loads enjoying this great forum. Have fun.

Just to echo the sentiment from PJS, also don't start any pointless polls.

Much more substantial than my other watches, but doesn't feel it and my first automatic.

Thank you very much for the warm welcomes :)

Is that good luck with not going broke becoming addicted or good luck not accidentally upsetting anyone dogbiltt? Maybe both! Haha :)

Hello and welcome. You're doing the right thing...you've only started one thread, this one, and replied in others. We're not that bad really (mostly), but take your time, observe and you'll soon see what upsets members. Sometimes that's fine as everyone has a bête noire, just don't take offence if one of our replies is a bit to the point.

I joined the forum and was a lurker for a long time before posting...and even longer before introducing myself (it was my first forum and I didn't know the etiquette). You've posted pictures so you obviously know what you're doing!

Enjoy the forum...and your growing collection.

I echo the welcome and hope you enjoy reading the threads as much as I do. I'm not a huge contributor but a daily reader (must try harder). Just try not to start a Rolex/Omega/JLC etc "explain their appeal" thread. It won't go well. ;-)

    Welcome along Matt

Some sage advice already dispensed! I used the search function quite a bit when I joined, very useful. Sure you'll enjoy it here, some great info and lots of great brands to learn about and pictures to see.

    Enjoy,
    Jon

    Welcome!!

    Welcome Matt!!!

You will enjoy it here if you stick to the few basic rules mentioned and just watch the others having their lovers tiffs!!
You might want to get a bigger watch box also because as the years go by and if you stay the collection will get a little silly or perfect depending on whether we ask you or your wife :-)

    Chris
