What did he use to take photos? A phone camera from 2001?

Optimistic.
Great write up, a scammer who has done his homework.
Hahahahahahahah
And that's one of the better ones on gumtree.
I had a look on Gumtree last night for the first time ever with a search radius of 30 miles, keyword 'watch' and in the first few pages of results i counted 20 fake watches, mostly Rolex. Tags and even a Royal Oak
I didnt even know there were so many about, some sellers were asking £100's for them too
A real eye opener
"Provenance polished"?
I would never consider buying from gumtree, but as an educational exercise for a novice like me, some questions for the more experienced...
The watch depicted in the photos looks genuine enough at the (poor) resolution posted. Are there any "tells" that it is fake?
For me, the warning signs are Gumtree, poor resolution of photos so detail difficult to make out, the seller's "pitch", even though he's done his homework, etc.
Also, scam = photos of real watch but what you buy in reality is fake?
a '66 5513 should be a meters first - and its the cutoff point for a gilt dial also...
The seller's obviously a TZ-UK reader, because his first word's 'Stunning'.
If I had a penny for every pixel in that photo I'd have tuppence.
Vintage is getting so difficult to navigate. I have even seen a fake Omega Apnea, and the originals arent in that much demand.
Same watch is on E-Bay for a bargain £8000, still has the same incorrect dial though, so if your going to splash out buy it off E-Bay!
