Never heard of 3 of them and surprised at the ranking
That's interesting. I never knew that Swatch owned so many brands.
I thought i knew all of the Swatch brands , but ive never heard of Leon Hatot .
I will have to look them up .
I hate what they did to some of the brands, like Union and Longines. Union for a while had decently finished but undecorated GO movements, and some very nice LEs like the Julius Bergter. Now they are pretty bleh. And Longines for me was always, together with Rolex, Zenith and JLC, what came just after the Big Three. Not to mention Hamilton, when I started collecting (OK, I'm an old fart) we used to call them the American Patek. Although I always preferred Elgin (free-sprung balance!).
And Omega in the same league as GO and Breguet?
I call it Hayek-ing....
It is rather shallow, I had a Tissot Visodate which shared the movement with my Longines HC with the modifications for the day and the resultant calibre number. Nevertheless its equal. The Tissot was just as nicely made. For its intended purposes. Though I would agree with the luxury listing. Even given the white bread.
Jaquet droz new one on me
Being new to all this I didn’t realise they owned most of those brands.... everyday's a school day!
Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
I didn't realise they owned Glashutte Orginal or Union Glashutte. Bit naive of me to think that just because they were German watch companies that they would be independent.
Omega being part of the swatch group : That's what has always put me off them
Yep. One of the big constituents of Swatch (SSIH) had Omega-Tissot at its core. SSIH started the asset-stripping process when facing insolvency in 1979 and the creditors (this being Switzerland, the banks) eventually assumed control a couple of years later after the equity collapsed. The merger with ASUAG was engineered by a management consultant, who then took it private in 1985 after inventing the Swatch. Fast-forward to 1998 and the company named itself after the early 1980s saviour - the Swatch.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
Interesting, I reckon there's only a handful of watches I'd be willing to buy from the whole group... And a few I couldn't afford even if I wanted.
Omega and Breguet on the same tier is pretty crazy and Tissot, Mido on the same tier as CK....
Flik Flak and Swatch below CK? Can't take that seriously.
