This watch has been somewhat highly anticipated. And, for good reasons too with the widely publicized auction of Dave Scott's Bulova Moon Watch auction. These were supposed to hit the market in January 2016.
However, it seems about 1500 were sent out to dealers and these are by and large sold out with not many if any appearing in the stores.
There have been rumors, mostly unfounded that Bulova is not planning to sell anyone of these. I suspect that these are probably spread by interested parties to drive the prices of the early watches. I was keen to get one and not willing to take the chance got one off EBay. Had to pay over the list price given the interest in these watches.
Anyway, got it today and am quite pleased. Looks very much like the pictures and that is good as the pictures showed it off quite well. One minor quibble is that the CHRONO second hand doesn't line up perfectly. It is rather big at 45 diameter but wears more like 43 mm and is not excessively tall. Lugs are 20 mm. Am sure the time keeping of the UHF movement is excellent. Love the inscription on case back. Am not sure if the moon watch connection was not there if I would be as interested but is still a nice enough watch. Date window position might bother some but is not intrusive.
Gorgeous! It comes across as one of those watches that would look good on almost any strap...
First one on the Forum? I badly want one of these! I hope the supply rumours are unfounded...
Nice one Raj, as I said earlier, this is the first new watch in ages that has sparked a real interest, is it fairly shallow for its width? Being Quartz I would hope so?
Cheers..
Jase
Love it, nicely executed and really interesting to look at.
I really, really wanted one of these when I heard about it last year, but the ridiculous size has ruined it for me. Your wrist shot confirms it.
Sorry, but Bulova has dropped a proverbial with this
Don't care about the size. It's a nice watch.
Nice looking watch and I really like those buttons. The history of the watch is also pretty cool. Again, shame about the size. Apparently the reissue is bigger then the original which is a shame.
Not to hijack the thread but I'm starting to come round to liking Bulova watches. Especially the Accutron Surveyor II which luckily is smaller then the Moon watch.

Great watch at what seems a great price.
Classic strap combo.
I didn't know anything about the watch until I found this:

Lovely, I want one
I am very impressed with these and from pics i have see they don't appear to wear as large as the specs suggest
I think If you can get hold of one you cannot go far wrong, congratulations
My late great uncle was one of the founding Nasa scientists, and I'm lucky enough that I inherited one of his own Bulovas. However, I recall him telling me none of the astronauts had confidence in the Omegas working in space so they all took their own Bulovas with them
Additionally, all the instrument panels were made by Bulova. Does anyone know what happened to the other Bulova watches which went on the mission?
Sorry I thought it was pretty common knowledge. Essentially, the use of Omega was a corporate endorsement which I understand left much of Nasa bemused. There were concerns that a mechanically powered wouldn't work in zero gravity. Bulova, as I'd expect most people here know, had developed a battery powered watch which the US government saw as so ground breaking that they asked Bulova to delay releasing commercially as they didn't want the technology falling into soviet hands
Nice looking watch, and looks like a Breitling gold croc' strap, if I'm not mistaken. Suits it beautifully.
Very true!
Lovely watch, I have one on order with deposit paid at a UK AD, so am hopeful of getting one. Thanks for the early thoughts
Ha, it's a nice looking watch, and I'm not really into anything multi-dial.
Here are the original and the reissue side by side.
The size of the reissue is caused by trying to stick to the proportions of the original while using the distances between the subdials of the modern movement.
If they had squeezed half the layout to fit the modern movement into the original size of case then they would have made a horrible mess of the design. If they had developed a brand new movement just for this watch then.....then you wouldn't like the price much.
It's 4mm bigger than I would be prepared to wear, but I recognise that Bulova won't have trouble selling 45mm chronographs in the modern day.
Here's another 45mm chrono, nonchalantly stolen at random from the web

Gorgeous watch, hope I don't cause offence but I prefer the Bulova to the Breitling
It's very nice but shame about the mineral glass
Very nice - any chance of a lume shot please RAJEN
So it does I'm sure I read a review saying otherwise. I must investigate
Mineral according to the site

Hope your correct was after a mon watch and a nice quatz for the collection this might tick both boxes.
What's uk price?
Mmmm very tempting
Is it a limited run?
Like rocking horse poo then.
I like everything about it (even the size) except the date window. I really think that's a poor decision on their behalf, just no need for it at all. I'd have been all over it otherwise :(
Just popped into the Bulova AD at the trafford centre and put my name down for one at the end of the month when their allocation is due. £449 or something like that. I will give it a look when it is in but would rather not dent my Daytona fund if I can help it.
Hour min subdial & sweep hands right shape but too thick.
Subdials & dial should have been flat black.
Battons & hand lume could have been made 'Vintage' cream colour.
Worst of all the Bulova typeface, why not as the original?
If all if the above I'd have one.
Next!
Very nice, but 42mm would be better IMHO

Just put my name down for one in Beaverbrooks.
The version on a bracelet is now available too

I've a trip to the US next week, and a shop I've used in the past has put one aside for me, so I'm very excited.
It's the bracelet version.
