Question I NEED a chunk of Bronze on my wrist!!

After discovering bronze watches im yearning for one. Only thing is my budget says No at £300 Max.

Ive been searching around for a couple of weeks and one which i think is a great design is the Makara sea turtle. Great looking piece but ive sent emails with no response from them and it seems they have zero customer service. This has left me with no confidence to buy from them.

Pushing my budget ive been looking at Borealis but the dial they have put in it just seems all wrong to me. Also i found out there price does not include vat.

Ancon challenger is a nice piece and seems good value at $499 but still i just dont think i can push to that.

Do you folks know of anything else? I keep my eye on ebay and watchrecon but the latter is mostly items for sale in america so i have to factor in customs as well.

Failing all this ive started looking at the cheap mans bronze 'brass' and have been getting excited about the Helson Shark. Thought i would ask here first before i start pulling the trigger.

A used PRS-30 seems to go for around £400 but is worth the extra.

Here my contribution, Lum-tec Bronze ( boo hiss I hear you say) but its one of my favorites despite owning Rolex, Omega, IWC brands etc.

A good honest weekend beater, did I mention... the lum is outrageous

The Borealis is a great price for bronze but that price does not include vat. Also I just can't get my head around that dial. Just seems all wrong to me.

That Aevig looks very nice but too small. Minimum I'll go is 42mm dial.

Have a look at this Steinhart: http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/Na...ronze,811.html

If you'd like to buy one that is around a year old, complete, barely worn and in mint condition let me know. I'm not at home right now to take photos.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I'd strongly recommend a Maranez Layan. I've been very pleased with mine.

Be aware that Maranez tend to build and release their watches in relatively small batches. So at present a number of Layan variants are out of stock. However, on their website at the moment there are still 3 black Arabic dial Layans available, which would be my pick of the variants they're currently building...

I actually own a brown Arabic dial version, but they don't currently make it. I'll post photos of it here this evening when I get home.

Actually the current Layan is an improvement on mine, in that it now has a brass crown and a brass buckle.

I have a steel Valkyr, and if that's anything to go by, it will be a nice piece.

OP - not as small as the dimensions might suggest either, and it's got an interesting individuality to the design.

Forgive the lack of knowledge, why is it blacked? Thought the patina would change darker, but do most bronze/brass watches do that, to black almost? Thanks

I've got the Ancon Challenger, a big brute of a watch, the design being based on the Panerai Mille Metri. although I only learnt that after I bought it. I also chose a different numbers set.

I got it from a place in Bangkok that specialises somewhat in Bronze watches although there were also other watches from brands not normally catering for the masses, as well as a small selection of Damasko and Squale. I actually had 9 bronze watches to choose from, more if they met my criteria. Here's a selection of others that I saw/tried, if it helps. I had a great time there (excuse the quality of the photos)!

Just so happens I was very close to purchasing the Ancon. There currently $499 which is a lot of bronze for the money. Still a bit too much over my budget.

After a bit of Google research when I was looking at them I came across your old thread on here which was great and nearly had me pushing the buy button. It also brought my attention to this forum which is why I joined.

So it's all down to you that I'm on here and buying the steinhart above, lol, thanks.

I really wanted a diver but I can't resist the steinhart. It looks great craftsmanship and have always had a soft spot for pilot watches.

Thanks for that. Seems a decent price. Though Think the seller would be better off polishing it up.

There are many, many ways to artificially age bronze, and if you're willing to put the time in they can look fantastic (highly polished aged look).

That one is just foul, it looks like they've just spray painted it matt black and then worn it for a couple of weeks.

The watch has been 'ammonia fumed'. The ammonia fumes turn the case black. Personally I don't like it, but it would be easy to remove with a quick soak in tomato ketchup.

Sprite was quoting a post made by me, amongst others, and it wasn't a message full of photo's merely a link to a watch of the type the OP was looking for, and he was asking a valid question.

Other members are merely being helpful. This forum is unmoderated for a reason, members can do as they wish, within reason, especially when trying to help a fellow member. Your message is simply unhelpful.

If you care to look below that he quoted Caller's post which had quite a few pictures. Not a biggie but it happens not infrequently and often for no reason. It is certainly rather inconsiderate and often uneccessary. Some just want to reply but end up replying with quote.
I remember once Jocke had a post with over 60 pics and someone responded by quoting the whole post for no reason.
It is not a question of moderation but being considerate.

I disagree. Needlessly quoting a large number of images is spammy, and the sales talk shouldn't be here. I made a polite request to a newbie to help maintain standards for us all. Entirely warranted and helpful, in my opinion.

Posting a large number of images is quite normal in other fora, particularly sales corner, and just look at TGIF forum.

I have never been aware of a bandwidth problem on this forum, and there has never been a limit set on number of pictures posted. Posting links to photographs is far better than posting them for obvious reasons, and if there are a lot of pictures, of which you disapprove, then the answer is obvious, just don't look at them or open the link.

I would far rather that members posted images in an attempt to help another member, than another member complained about the number of image posted to help a member. Callers post was not unreasonable, annoying at best, but he was merely trying to be helpful.... I timed it, it took about 3 seconds to pass through the entire post!

It is not for another member to take it upon himself to chide another member for any reason other than personal dislike of his thread. This is an open forum, and despite it's faults, I'm more than happy for it to remain that way.

And who made the decision that 'sales talk', should not be allowed elsewhere than in Sales Corner?? You??, Eddie??

Although it can be a mildly annoying amount of scrolling, there's no technical reasons why it should be a problem: Pictures should all be cached anyway so including them in a quote won't (or shouldn't) increase bandwidth usage either for the forum or for individual users.

Glad to have been of help! I think it's really important you go with your hearts desire. I broke all my own personal rules with my purchase. I decided I wanted something different, something out of my normal comfort zone for bronze which is why I chose what I did, rather than something from the more established brands. I have to say that I love mine, it's a great accompaniment to my brass Armida and fits me surprisingly well, especially as the case is 47mm. I'm letting it do it's own thing with the patina, which is already coming along nicely. I Hope you enjoy your watch as much as I enjoy mine!

Thanks. I do like the Ancon very much also gruppo, magrette etc. There are quite a few of that design out there. The steinhart I have bought is not what I have been looking for but as soon as skier offered the watch and I did some picture googling I couldn't resist.

There does not seem to be many pilot bronze watches out there which makes the steinhart feel a bit more individual.

My bronze Diver will come one day, just not now :)

I think the rules regarding SC access and the fact that SC exists at all, indicate that Eddie doesn't want sales posts in other parts of the forum.

Ketchup contains vinegar (a mild acid) which helps remove patina.

Any Mild acid can do the job - lemon juice & baking soda, coca cola, ketchup, vinegar

    Question

Ive seen toothpaste used to great effect to remove patina.

Regards the quoting pics, i shall delete them first in future as it is slightly annoying.

Has someone deleted Skiers posts of the steinhart ive bought? I wanted to ogle at them again!!!!!!!

Ketchup is gloopy, and sticks to the surface, meaning it doesn't have to be submerges therefore less risk to the seals.

Probably because a member complained about the number of images on this thread, he says he was being helpful - just not to you, the OP!

I hadn't heard of the Aevig Valkyr Bronze up until this thread.

    Absolutely love it.

Was going to buy one, but I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really put off with websites where they hide their/or have no, contact details.
