Silly Watch Choice Needs a Remedy!

    Gents,

I'd like to draw on the collective brain trust of this forum for advice on a friend's birthday present.

His family have bought him this watch:

    https://www.momastore.org/museum/mom...-1_26690_11474

Now, let's be clear: this watch seems ridiculously priced. Leaving that aside (and that's a fairly big thing to put aside for a 900+ quid gold plated quartz,) my mate quite likes the size and design.

HOWEVER, with a young baby in the house and another en route, he wants something that is waterproof - not necessarily Mariana Trench-compliant, but enough to get dunked/splashed/spilled upon with regularity.

So, esteemed denizens of the land known as TZ-UK, riddle me this: A full refund is available. If you could suggest a watch of similar style and size, gold, at or less than 900 quid, with some water resistance, what would it be?

Meanwhile, I'm off to flog some under-specced, over-priced designs to a museum gift shop...

Nice , elegant design , probably looks better in the flesh with it's curved crystal. Agree it's possibly a little optimistically priced.
A longines can be had considerably cheaper which would be my choice for a daily beater that fulfills the waterproof criteria.
Not too sure about wearing something so classically styled by any brand as a daily though, eapecially with 2 very young 'uns to care for. Splash and bash proof would/was my preference ;-)

Can you pick up a nomos for that sort of money?

If so, that would be perfect.

Some good suggestions so far, cheers!

    - A Longines (Grande Classique, perhaps) is a good shout - similar style, roughly in the price range.
    - Would prefer to keep the choices new rather than vintage - they're a practical lot so warranties and whatnot are a consideration.
    - I think the design of a Nomos would go down a treat, but I believe they're a bit above budget, at least new.

Any and all other suggestions welcome...

if he wants quartz, this is a pretty close alternative and from a reputable maker.

From Amazon: "...withstands rain and splashes of water but not showering or submersion".

I assume you're referring to the Moma watch? Fully agreed. I'm delighted the lack of water resistance was a deal breaker, as it's saved me from having to saying what a splendid gift it is!

I like the Ole Matthiesen watches. They are quite popular in Denmark. I think they achieve a balance in the design that many similar designs does not. If your friend likes it, they are available with higher WR.

    Cheers
