Oh no my lovely B-1 - condensation and advice

Foolishly had my b1 on in the shower for a minute before I noticed yesterday

Took it off and again foolishly left it in the bathroom as I went to work

This morn the screen is cloudy and the digital functions aren't showing

I'm assuming the water has screwed it

Any ideas how much I'll be charged to fix?

Are Breitling the only place to truest or are there other places for less?

    I'm gutted tbh

The normal analogue function is working
But with the screen cloudy it looks very lucky lucky

Maybe whip the back off- the £ shop do a water damaged phone repair kit or try in a sel;aed container with some silica packs or rice- worth a shot

^^^^^^ like he said. But also remove the battery and fit a new one after its been dried out.

Very annoying, sorry to hear it. If the module is damaged then Breitling are the only people who can replace it and they cost about £800 two years ago when I enquired. If you can get the back off with a ball of sticky tape I'd do so and sit it in a jar of rice for a few days to dry out as others have suggested. I'd probably still send it away though as otherwise the hands/dial may corrode in time even if everything else seems OK, plus it will be resealed properly - sounds like it might do it again if you were caught in torrential rain for example.

I used to have an Airwolf but it never got wet as I don't use any expensive chrono in the water and esp not one rated at only 50m which is that old.

A b1 should be OK in the shower surely? I would get it checked out, maybe the seals are goosed.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

The youngest B1 is 15 years old now. Might have never been serviced and the seals could be all hard and split.

Ten years old surely? I bought mine from Berrys in Sep 2006 and it was one of the last of the blue ones available.

To the OP, very sorry to hear about your B-1. I hope you manage to get it sorted as they're wonderful watches.

    This might help:

I don't think you can use a generic tool for the B1 back.

If you can get the back off and the battery out you might be able to dry the innards out.

I hope you are able to sort it; it's possibly one of the best ana-digital watches ever made; better even than anything Breitling are doing now in my opinion, so worth rescuing.

    Popped into AD

I decided to play the sympathy card at my AD in Nuneaton

They said they'll take the back off and see if they can dry it out etc

    All seemed very much goodwill

Saw a Tag in there that's discitinued down from £3500 to £2500

Hi OP, sorry to hear what has happened and hope you get it sorted out by your AD. I never felt confident about getting my B-1 wet. The 50M rating + the (very pretty) turbine case back were the reasons. I also wonder whether the expansion caused by the heat in a shower could make a 50M watch more susceptible than a dip in the pool. BTW I can confirm it is only 10 years for the youngest; I bought my black dial new in early 2006.

    Update

So johnsons had the watch Saturday morning
They said they'd dry it out etc and see what hey could do

They rang me this morn to tell me they have the watch working but are struggling to set it
That's always an issue for ME so the fact they are makes sense as the middle crown can be over sensitive or dull at times

They have rescaled it and changed the battery

They stated that the person who had changed it before (jewellery quarter Birmingham I will name and shame later) had not sealed the watch properly and indeed had put the seal back on wrongly

So.... I collect the watch tonight from the AD at a mind blowing cost of....

    £6-50 for the battery

    If I can set it - which I will - I'm a happy bunny

  13. #13

    Well....

    It's a mare
I cannot get the hands to change at all

    The watch is running
The digi functions can be seen but the central crown is not rotating the services through the screens

This did happen before I think but it sorted itself

Does anybody remember how you do a hard reset on the b-1
I know it was mentioned when I had a previous problem

It may be worth a shot

Try spinning the crown fast for a few minutes. If the digits don't change function. Unfortunately it sounds like a full service. It will come back like new from BUK and warrantied.

It may help. Oh. I bought my SQ B-1 in 2003 and the non-SQ were around since 1998 so they've been around 18 years.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Well it's off to the service centre

The watch is now off to the maker via my AD

I did quiet why it's £30 postage (return so £15 each way)
    But told that's the score

    Could be £110

    Could be £350

    Could be silly money

    The digital display works
The hands move to tell the time

However - telling it what to do is another story via the central control crown
All vtemprimfntal and won't synch regardless

This is a good advertisement for NOT wearing watches in showers! OK, lots of folks will argue that their dive watch is fully waterproof etc and it'll be fine. I don't disagree with this, what I DO disagree with is getting into the habit of not removing your watch when it's bath or shower time. You may end up owning several watches, including some with poor water resistance or even no WR; in my case I own plenty of vintage that wouldn't appreciate a shower! If you always take your watch off ou won't make a mistake; by the same token if you habitually shower in your watch it's all too easy to give the wrong watch a dousing.

Hopefully the OP will get the watch sorts without too much financial pain, getting water in a watch can happen to the best of us.

Another good reason to take your watch off is to clean underneath it.. No-one wants stinky wrist syndrome :)

It's an equally-good advertisement for getting a watch pressure tested periodically.

Here are a few for keeping watches on the wrist, especially near tiled floors:

It'll definitely be a module change which will cost £395.

You could be correct. £395 was the cost of my co-pilot module.
