Bought this a couple of weeks ago. Not my first 'M' but it is my first convertible. First impressions: Love it! Engine is a peach, gearbox (manual) is solid if a little long on the throw and really enjoying the roof-off experience, especially the engine noise @ high revs!

I've been looking at getting a weekend toy and I think I've settled on one of these ,they seem good value at the minute, having had the coupe a few years back I think I may try a convertible

Love those older Japanese sports cars. Always had a soft spot for Supras, 300ZX and GTO/3000GTs.

I agree with them being old, but with 600bhp and 520 lbft it was plenty fast enough for a road car. Too heavy as a track car though.

Always wondered about insurance for heavily modded stuff - if you've a variable boost control, do you let the insurer know the standard power or the max output?

I declared everything with Sky insurance, and gave them the max power figs, it was £600 per year.

My one only had 450bhp its the weight which is the killer

I had 480 bhp in this and boost started at only 2400rpm felt a lot better
It was costing £1500 a year to insure lol

I'm thinking of remapping my new Type R there is 375bhp doing the rounds I may go for

That sounds pretty reasonable. Limited mileage and over 40 years old?

Daily driver 8000 miles, I was 32 at the time, but that was 5 years ago. The Beemer is remapped and costs me £420 with the Mrs Invcluded, she wasn't on the Supra as she was scared of it.

Mine made about 410bhp bpu, it was about as fast as a cls 55 amg, with the gt35 r on it would take out bikes up to 600cc. The 1000cc plus was a different game though.

    The GT35R made 1 bar at 2800rpm and 1.6 at about 3600rpm

^Thanks. Obviously there are a lot of variables (condition of licence, post code etc.) but that's lower than I expected.

Edit: £750 sounds quite toppy for the Type R, bazza - about double what I'm paying for the S2K but then I am old.

I was running a HKS GTII 7460R I was offered 600bhp for the same price but was told the boost wouldn't
Start unit 3500rpm but the HKS was the same as standard 2400 ish so I went with that and ran 2bar

The Supra I wanted to keep the twin turbo system was still good for around 185mph

The Evo X even with the extra power and rev limiter still at 8k top out at about 165 ish

But my standard Civc Type R does 170 the remap they say gives you 180 plus

Believe or not the Smart does 130mph it has had a remap and giving it a hole 120bhp :)
But only weighs in at 800kg

I was paying about a £100 less for my S2k but I have full 12 month green insurance there are only 2 companies in the UK
how will do that I believe thats why its high

Whoops I didn't realise the Type R was that quick. Makes sense then - love the Smart by the way.

I did a 180 and hit the barrier on the hard shoulder first on the rear and then
Spun round and hit the front end , I had time to see what was happening and
Pushed myself back into the seat and was all ok

    I got this next

Ive had two an Evo 8 410bhp and an Evo X FQ360 with 480bhp
0-60 both could do it in 3.5sec the X a little less in the wet they
Will beat anything on the road , rain or snow doesn't stops them
The 8 was more fun I'd say but both are weapons

I think the X looks better, does it have a nicer interior than the VIII?

Both have great seats but the X is a nicer place to be plus it has a great sound system and in-car infotainment system
Plus it has 20gig hard drive for all your music the navi was spot on and G-meter the 8 had a G-meter but not in the same
league as the X , The X was aimed at the M3 , I had carbon fitted to the dash looked pretty good

I really want one of these. Last time I was on track at Silverstone there were 4 factory cars and 2 privately owned. Unfortunately one of the private cars blew their engine on the pit straight.

Just sold on my TVR Tuscan ( for a decent profit which was nice ) and am now nervously getting used to a Maserati Quattroporte.

I haven't taken any pictures of it yet! Doh.
