    Woohoo! TZ-UK is back online!

Even though I don't post much here, I visit everyday (at least once). It's been a long couple of days.

The forum is back up an running entirely due to the efforts of forum member tekkno. Graham has worked wonders and I'm amazed that he could do what he has.

Without going into too many details, suffice to say that it's a bit of smoke and mirrors, string and chewing gum. I'll be sorting out a new hosting service tomorrow and unless it goes down before, there will be some more downtime later this week whilst everything is transferred to the new server.

Seems like a good time to install the latest stable version of PHPBB. :)

    Many thanks from me Graham.

    Welcome back TZ-UK! :)

Seems Eddie sold his last Dreadnought, as it is no longer on the upper right-hand corner of the page

Yes, its nice to see the forum up and running again, but I suspect not as much as those members who run the sales section as their own commercial enterprise!!! It was interesting looking around at the increased traffic on other watch forums.

Thanks to all who were involved in getting the forum back on line, especially Eddie and Graham. It's been a long 3 days!

The other place is nothing like as friendly!!

  33. #33
You are all quite welcome. I realised that Eddie was having issues with his hosting service and i know that NOTHING gets done by the back end support over a weekend as it is just too expensive to employ clueful people on a Saturday or Sunday and as Eddie provides the forum from his own resource i welcome the opportunity to put a bit back into something from which i derive enjoyment.
However, it is all held together with bubblegum right now so blame me if it goes pear shaped. To repeat what Eddie has said, the forum will undergo radical change over the next week or so so expect some outages. The difference will be that the outages will be planned and Eddie will give you plenty of notice.

Nice that it is working though!

Might I add a small suggestion: Instead of upgrading to phpbb3, give SMF (Simple Machines Forum) some thought.
I've migrated my phpbb Board (> 200000 posts) to SMF and the performance increase was incredible. In addition the board has some very nice features which you don't get with phpbb.

    Just some food for thought...

    Cheers,
    Oliver

    Thank goodness for that!!!

Gotta say that I really missed this place, too. I used to mostly post at WUS but of late I've posted more here than anywhere else and it's become one of my favourite hang-outs. Very glad to see it back online! I've been trying to get in about 6 times a day since it disappeared the other day. :D

Phew, it's back up and running! :D

Top work Eddie and Graham, and many thanks.

I did however manage to buy another watch during the downtime, don't let a small thing like lack of access stop me!

Another thanks to Graham and Eddie, well done. I also must have tried at least 10 times between Friday and today. It's amazing how much you miss it , and none of the other watch forums can make up for it.

Is this site now much faster for anyone else? I posted recently how this forum was far slower for me than any other site. It's now just as fast - Hope it stays that way :)

damn- i thought my 'puter was going down again when i couldn't get on tzuk ( i nearly chucked it at the wall in disghust. )
i have a look in on most days (don't usually login unless there's something that i decide to reply to but as said previously, i kept trying again and again, i ended up finding out that the forum was up and running when someone on british blades forums put a thread up that tz was back up and running :hello1: :hello1: :hello1:

graham- you're a genius (i think a national holiday is called for  )

    rgds, john :P

btw, anyone else notice that it was mentioned on other fora that tz was down??
think i read it on at least 4 other forums

ps, i had to spell disgust with a 'h' in it otherwise it brought up a blue smiley
