    Removing Links

Hi folks, been lurking for a while and have found this forum to be very helpful and such an interesting read and i'm very impressed with such vast knowledge.

I've just received and Omega Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch and I was wondering what the best thing to do with regards to removing links would be. Should I take this to a mainstream jeweller (Goldsmiths etc.) an old fashioned watch specialist or would it be possible to do this myself?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Welcome.

This can be done yourself. If its an earlier model it will have pins and you will need a pin extractor to push them out. Just search pin extractor on fleabay or Amazon, they are very inexpensive. If you have a later model then they are screws so just a small precision screwdriver will do the trick.

A DIY job. A set of screwdrivers can be had from Amazon for about a fiver.

For pins, I just use a cheap plastic watch bracelet block, push the pin through with the pin end of a spring bar tool (well worth buying a burgeon 6767f in my opinion as it is great to be able to change your own straps depending on your mood), and a pair of pliers to pull the pin out from the other side.

If you are in Edinburgh both the ADs can do that for you, They usually won't charge for taking links out.

They can be difficult to remove, sometimes they seem to stick in the tube for no apparent reason. If you've no experience with doing these things perhaps it's not wise to practice on something valuable.

If its the newer model than you can do it yourself pretty easily - use a 1.4mm (preferably bergeon) screwdriver

If they are screw links, buy a decent screwdriver not a cheap one otherwise you could damage the screw head, also make sure it's the correct size for the screw. I also put a tiny bit of masking tape over the blade of the screwdriver so if does slip, it should limit the damage.

+1 to the Bergeon tool, as well as a good screwdriver. I have both Bergeon screwdrivers @ 1.2 & 1.4, as well as an "A&F" set. Cheap jewellers will potentially cause damage to the screw, and will not sit properly in the screw head.

Will the 1.4 also fit the screw on the 2016 aqua terra bracelet?
