Rolex Datejust 30 Years Old Today

As the title says this beauty is 30 years old today.

I was very lucky to have found this 16030 Datejust, sure they are not hard to find but this one had seen very little use and has benefited from a full Rolex service/plexiglass change and has been returned as new.
The watch has a fluted steel bezel rather than the white gold and features a very nice silver\grey dial and drilled lugs. The dial and hands are original T Swiss and have lost all the lume they might have once had.

The really weird thing is that while I had always thought these watches looked great I had the feeling that they were on the small side, despite never looking small when I caught someone else wearing one.

Comfort wise the watch is off the scale and is comparable to my SMP titanium in terms of weight, so all in all I'm very happy and blown away by the condition of the watch after 30yrs.

Silver dial, index markers, fluted bezel, jubilee? Check. That is lovely, and my favourite kind of Datejust.

What a lovely watch to have in your collection, a great example of this classic, and with all the bits.

Not a fluted bezel though, this steel bezel has the engine turned finish.

I've always preferred the engine turned bezels, although I get the impression this isn't the popular choice.

Here is mine, a newer model from the 2000s, but thankfully not changed too much from yours:

Thanks for that Colin, I did not know about the engine turned bezel, I could tell it was different and I really like the way it manages to catch the light.

Lovely example. That's an engine-turned bezel (as opposed to fluted), and I actually think I prefer them these days having recently been pretty agnostic about them.

That's a beautiful watch, OP. It's exactly what I'm looking for as a dress watch.

That's very nice Mike. Looking at your purchasing trajectory, can we expect to see a Patek annual calendar on your wrist by, oh let's say the next Olympics? 😆

That looks fantastic - a watch born on St. Patricks day is bound to bring you good luck!

Beautiful examples, OP' watch does not look 30 years old.

Very tempting indeed. Trying to convince myself I need a dress watch and a watch without a black dial...

If you look beyond the DJ as a "dress" watch there's a lot of sport in there as well.

Talk about timeless! Beautiful example of a beautiful watch

Makes me wonder, if I ever become a Rolex owner, would I get a Sub or a DJ?!
