Smile New Rolex 6 months on

I purchased my first Rolex back in November and looks like I've been bitten by the bug with the second purchase.

I'm no WIS and I'm still learning about all the models. I remember seeing the 'Batman' in the Rolex catalogue and thought that's nice, but the sales person put a cross on it and says it's difficult to get. Similar crosses on the Hulk and DeepBlue. I haven't bought from the AD before and were clueless about Rolexes... I was thinking probably no chance of even seeing the BLNR in store. I eventually settled on the EXII which I do like the sportiness and it doesn't scream Rolex. The GMT was handy as I travel quite a lot.

However a month later with a little more research and being on the forum (bad idea), I was still itching for the BLNR and the only time I've seen and try one on was at the Grey dealers. Naively I learnt that it's almost impossible to get one without a long waiting list and being laughed at (18 months I've been told in most UK ADs) I guess I could wait and hope that there won't be another price hike again. Had my name down with my local AD and 4 months on I had the phone call. It helps that I got to know the staff and built a relationship with the AD.

I'm glad I don't have to deal with all the malarkey about ADs removing stickers or keeping the warranty card. I won't be selling mine anyway but it's nice to have everything intact. The AD and staff was a pleasure to deal with.

The 'gifts' I had this time was a service pouch and a Cartier cleaning kit which I'm still pleased with.

Those are a lovely pair and some fantastic photos, especially the close up of the dial and bezel!

What a debut!! Fantastic pictures. And a great pair of Rolex. You have captured the Batman beautifully.

I think the way you approached this was spot-on. Find a good local...often 'family'....AD; it produces real long-term benefits. Not so sure about the big chains , but then I have never bought from them.
Have you got your name down for the more sought-after models? Can't hurt. Sometimes a local AD can surprise you. Especially away from the bigger cities.

Great shots and a great watch, love my GMT. It's a bug that's going to cost a fortune good luck 👍

I do like the look of the BLNR and those photographs are great, they make it look like a very striking watch. Alas, mine only lasted a week. Despite being a very photogenic watch, I couldn't get used to the bloated lugs/case/hands/plots and PCLs etc, when it was on my wrist. Maybe it is because I have become accustomed to the classic lines of the 1675/16750/16710 on my wrist over many years.

Congrats on the new timepiece. I also got mine after a short wait, and have not worn yet as is for my birthday. Only 6 days to go.

That's a lovely watch and certainly something that's next on my list.

Wish I'd asked for some extra goodies now.

Has the EXP2 taken a back seat since BLNR?

    Congratulations on your new addition.

You certainly take a mean set of photos.

Based on those alone, is making me want to go and buy them

I love this, build a relationship with your AD, a good family one etc. etc.

ADs do not give monkeys who you are, even if a big regular spender, all they want is your money, they are in business.

On another point, the not so new square 40mm sports case is quite a bit bigger than I thought, side by side to the 42mm EXP-II from left side to crown it's taller!!

Sorry OP, both lovely watches in their own right, enjoy

A great pairing of watches you have there and superb little write up. You have shown the BLNR really well in those shots-congrats on the purchase, and thanks for sharing.

I am surprised seeing the EXP2 and BLNR together in that pic. I expected to EXP2 to look bigger bit is not the case.

That's exactly what I did, got to know the staff and 3 months later I got the call and am now a very chuffed BLNR owner. Congrats it's a great piece and the EXii is not too shoddy

The GMT is stunning. I regret getting cold feet when I got a call from the AD. I think I may need to put my name down again.....

    GMT
    Red & blue = Pepsi
    Red & black = Coke
Gold & brown = root beer
Blue & black = batman or bruiser

    SUB
    Green bezel = Kermit
Green bezel & dial = hulk

For a small AD, you don't think that they won't want to build better relationships with clients they like dealing with? They do want to take your money, but humans want to have an easier life so will give (perhaps marginally) better service to those they like dealing with, even if it's not on purpose.

Thanks all :) No regrets with the BLNR. I got mine from a bigger AD and not treated any lesser. I definitely will be returning for another one... not sure what yet, maybe a Sub ND? Explorer or an AirKing? Don't mind the Hulk as well but that will be a long wait.

The EXII is not that much bigger than the BLNR, you're right. Everyone says it's huge but I find it just about the right size for me.

Really stunning watch I'd love a BLNR if only my wrists were a bit bigger as the case shape really doesn't suit me.
