My wife has one and loves it. It's comfortable, plenty of room for two kids (4 & 8) and the boot is just about big enough for a weekend away camping. Good residuals make them relatively cheap to lease/finance. We looked at everything from a Q5 to a Renault Kadjar and she preferred the Evoque. I don't know how much of that was the "image" but in answer to the original question, no it's not crap.
