On a practical level-the IWC is clearer and the navitimer has the slde rule that nobody really uses. So i prefer the IWC
But for some reason i'd buy the navitimer-doesnt make ANY sense but thats what iwould actually spend my cash on.

Hi, should you could choose between the Breitling Navitimer and the IWC Fliegerchronograph. Which one do you prefer or would you buy?

Very different watches IMO.
My personal preference would be the IWC as I find the Navitimer a bit much in terms of the dial layout and markings and the case does not sit well on my wrist. But as is the way with these things, buy the one that talks to you when you have each in your hand. :)
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
I would prefer the IWC. It looks classy and I don't like the white subdials of Breitling. :)
Jim.
Navitimer all day long. 8)
Cheers,
Neil.
No contest at all. IWC. :)

Here the same: the brain says IWC, but the heart says Navi... :?Originally Posted by ock1f

I go with the majority...Get the IWC. Much cleaner look and more usefull as the Breitling.
I was in the market for a IWC but changed my mind for something with wheels
If you really want a sliderule chronograph get an old Navitimer or a Lemania powered Sinn 903.
Just my 0,02 cents.
If it was my money, I would choose the Navitimer. It's a beautiful classic design and just appeals to me more than the somewhat cold looking IWC.
All the best with your choice.
The Navitimer is an iconic watch that has stood the test of time (even if sinn and others are making 'Navitimers' now).
I think the IWC has a better movement but I've had a Navitimer for ages and it's a good solid bullet proof timepiece.
If I was choosing between the two I'd go for the IWC.
When you put them together like that, the classic simplicity of the IWC is clearly more appealing than the fussiness of the modern Navitimer. The Navitimer is my last remaining grail but perhaps I may reconsider... Financially, they are both somewhat prohibitive.
For me the Navitimer is an absolute Classic. So that'd be my choice.
Btw... it's John Travolta's choice too ;)
(c) Breitling
Is it my eyes, or is the chrono second hand on the IWC slightly off-centre? Could be that the watch is at an angle, of course...
As others have said, the IWC probably makes more sense but I would plump for the Navi...
The IWC for clarity and sleek design, the navitimer for the more historic feel.
IWC Big Pilot but honestly, neither.
Breitling - it's a classic. IWC is too austere, or poker-faced, or something.Originally Posted by Watchlover07

IWC would be my choice, simple , clasic face, wot go wrong with either though.
roted bezel=navitimer wahoo! :bigsmurf:  :D :bigsmurf: :bigsmurf: :D  :blackeye:  :P :bounce:
IWC would be my choice - the Breitling is too fussy
If your trying to impress the Breitling will make more impact to the general public
I owned a Breitling for Bentley (similar to the Navitimer) for a while and it got more admiring glances and comments than any other watch I have owned, but even being my size I started getting a little paranoid about wearing it so I sold it.

Thank you all for your comments and answers. I am still hesitating. I had the IWC several times on my wrist but didn't feel a click to buy it. Two years ago I had the IWC 3706 and sold it and bought the Sinn103 ST SA. The movements from Sinn are to compair with IWC. That's a great hesitation now for me to buy the 371707. Because it is retail euro 3.570 now and for the Sinn 103 St SA you pay euro 1.000-1.100.
The moments I tried the Breitling I did feel a click: the great vintage look. Now I own the Navitimer and after some days I am a bit confused about it. That's why I ask "which one do you prefer". I will think it over this weekend and................... maybe the navitimer is for sale in about some days.
:? :? :?
Sounds like a decision between the head (IWC) and the heart (Navi). I think it's good to listen to your "head" when considering houses, cars, employment and other major purchases that need hard-headed decision-making. Watches? Nah :)Originally Posted by Watchlover07

With this sort of thing, you are trying to maximize the number of numerals per pound (dollar, or whatever). So, the navitimer wins hands down.
Best wishes,
Bob
For me, its the Navitimer - I want one. :D
If the Navitimer is the one that clicks, then get that one!
Personally, it's the IWC that does it for me :)

Skating away on the thin ice of a new day
No doubt, no contest, Navitimer.
It's the granddaddy of all aviation chronographs, and is a design in function over fashion. It is a true tool watch, designed for one purpose - aviation chronograph. Those that came later are merely pretenders to the crown.
Incidentally, despite what others have said, it shares the same base movement as the IWC - modified V7750. Both are heavily modified, though perhaps IWC remodel theirs with improved function more than beauty in mind. The Breitling is however, a chronometer. The IWC is not.
iwc for me,i can read it easier
but for you go with your heart....
Navitimer, with not a hesitation with regard to its looks and functionability.
Best wishes,
AP :)
IWC 8 days a week!
Love the IWC, strongly dislike the fussiness of the Breitling.
Flieger. :D
if buying modern the Flieger without a doubt, but a vintage 60's navitimer is da bomb 8)
The Navitimer: a true classic!
Navitimer any time!
IWC for me - i find the Breitling too....
Regards
Tim
Like them both, but I'd go for the IWC - just cleaner & less 'in your face' ..
/vince ..
IWC for me, always found breitlings a tad too fussy for me
Willie
Having owned a B'ling it'd be the IWC all the way. I have long admired this watch anyway. Besides i look at the pic Tim posted and see they even have to tell you which hand is which i gave up trying to tell the time on it

Which ever suits your personality ...
If you are flamboyant, Breitling.
If you are sombre, then IWC.

Costume jewellery. Ouch!!!
I like the Navitimer subdial layout - the IWC looks like any other 7750 - but I would be niggled by the date wheel - should be colour matched to the dial, I think.
On balance, I'd go for the Navi - the sliderule is fun to play with :)
The Navitimer dial is not fussy. It is purposeful, and contains the information and slide rule scales that were necessary for aviation use when the watch was designed in the 1950s.Originally Posted by tribe125
OK, so now we have radio and sat nav, but why change perfection?? The Nav slide rule is still a useful bit of kit.
I agree with Doug that the Navitimer isn't too fussy. Should I sell it and buy the IWC I first want to see it with the brown leather strap of the Antoine de Saint Exupéry. Judge for yourself. I made this pic some moments ago. I had to upload the pic because it is more then 120 kb. I have the feeling that I will keep the Navitimer and .......... hopefully buy the IWC later this year maybe in California. With a bit luck I can make advantage on the euro-$ currency over there........... Thx for all your comments.

To see the original pics of the wristshot from my Navitimer please click on "Download Datei". Should anyone likes the vintage Navitimer more you can visit http://www.juwelierburger.com. He is jeweler and sells great watches for fair prices. This site from Holland is also in english! I am not related to Alfred Burger. I add this info because I do want to end in the banned seller!!!
