Thread: Rolex SubC with 60 Minute Graduations?

Rolex SubC with 60 Minute Graduations?

Saw this on Watchfinder and did a double take since it wasn't a SD4000/SD43 or even a Deep-sea and yet it has a fully graduated bezel!? Anyone come across this before? Didn't think it would fit a SubC either:

A while a go I read a thread about a guy who bought a sub with an sd bezel. He asked for it to be swapped out, which the seller did for him. At the time, someone piped up and stated that there was a limited run or a Rolex mistake. How true that is is anyone's guess....

Interesting as I have never heard of that before. So was the insert itself made by mistake rather than a standard insert being fitted on the wrong watch as I thought all the fully graduated inserts would of the wrong size for a SubC?

On a side note, a future collectable for a error Bezel?

    Well that sold fast.....

Love it. So it appears the SDc bezel will fit on a 116610!!!

Maybe I will buy a 116610, knock the cyclops off and fit a SDc bezel!! If I can find one!!!

Not sure as it could be an error insert made by Rolex.

So do you think it has an aftermarket insert on it?

I don't know about this particular watch, I'm just saying that inserts are available that aren't made by Rolex, that's all.

That might have been me who mentioned it. It's 100% true, but they're all black dial two tone models based on what I've seen. The SD bezels were all gold filled, so it's not like someone just popped them on. I've seen a handful of NOS examples in the hands of serious collectors.

Be a little embarrassing if it is aftermarket or ‘franken’ and its been missed!

Whatever the story behind the bezel, have you seen the state of it?

It looks like a mechanic's been wearing it during an oil change.

I don't think Rolex does "limited runs". I think they were a mistake that Rolex either didn't care to fix, or didn't notice.

My eyes must be getting bad. What's wrong with the watch?

    What's more likely?

    1) Rolex make a mistake and sends it out to an AD - The AD don't notice the mistake - Buyer spends circa £6k on a watch they've likely lusted over and doesn't notice it

    or

    2) Someone buys a sub and an SD4000 insert and changes the bezel

    You would think!

But I have seen two cases of the past both BNIB one was an AD and the other a reseller in the states.

Hey I've seen a couple with the numerals on upside down.

Out of curiosity, have you ever seen them fetch a higher price in the same way an error dial has?

Oh and own up, who here was it that ended buying it as it seems to coincidental to have been purchased within half an hour of me talking about it considering they have had it for a few days at least!

I think this may be the same watch a friend of mine owned a few months back.
If so he damaged the original bezel and from what I remember was only able to source a sea dweller one that was badly marked like the one in the image.
RSC wanted a fortune to replace the original one. I will drop him a message to be certain.
