Dior homme intense but they all seem to make me jump like I've trapped the man jewels in my fly
Non stinging please. Something that calms the chops with a scent that lasts a good while. I find eau de colognes too sharp and most balms lose their pong quickly.
Blue Stratus is cheap and cheerful but scent lasts 10 mins. Aramis lasts longer but stings a bit. Might try Tabac which seems to have been going since the dawn of man so must have something going for it. Forget designer labels which to me are a rip off. Imagine Beckham aftershave how embarrassing would that be.

Everyone has different tastes so I'd recommend getting some samples

They have 15% of Tom Ford at the moment who does some nice scents although I guess you would categorise this as designer. I like the original, oud wood and tabac vanil if you like a sweater smell
Eau du Cologne shouldn't be put directly on the face, especially straight after shaving. Eau du Toilette and Eau du Parfum have longer lasting scent and are generally more expensive. Ideally they should be applied to the side of the neck or wrists. The best option is to use one together with an aftershave balm. Crabtree & Evelyn do some gift sets that contain cologne and balm and they usually have some good deals.
Avoid Tabac. My grandparents used to buy me it in the 80s and it stinks.
Please be aware the correct measurement scale on tz-uk is the bunghole scale - aftershave is measured by how much fizzing occurs.
Issey Miyake. Failing that a spaniel puppy.
Both pull the birds....

Creed Aventus for attracting the ladies
Hai Karate for attracting the Men

Why non stinging?
Any pussy foot balm or 'calming' aftershave makes me worse. I'd go for proper clear aftershave and whack it on, not exactly extreme pain. A tiny sting for one second but seems to completely stop any spots or rash forming after a shave for me. If I put balm on I'd be covered.
There can only be one . . .
F.T.F.A.
I almost exclusively wear Tom Ford now - yes, it's very expensive but it's a class apart, lasts all day, is alcohol free and they get so many comments whereas my "standard" premium aftershaves never / rarely do.
Stick with one of the old classics like Paco Rabanne, there's a reason they've been around so long.
+1 for the Creed Aventus - not cheap though!!
Polo black is always amongst my small selection.
I like a few......
I always liked Kouros though!
I still get some from time to time..........memories!
I use Arko aftershave
For edt I use joop red currently. Always get compliments at work :)
Creed Aventus is my current favourite followed by Hermes Terre.
As someone else has pointed out, try different ones from Scent Samples.
Acqua di Parma for me, simple, elegant, class. A fresh old fashioned scent...
Eau Savage, naturellement

My favourite is Bleu de Chanel, pricey but worth it!
I know that we don't do fakes here on the forum, but I highly recommend Perfume Parlour for great prices. I've tried a fair few of their Tom Ford clones and the Aventus they do is decent. Here's the site: https://perfume-parlour.co.uk
Polo Green is what I use and many people commen and ask me what it is..... just seems to suit me.
I also use Polo black occasionally.

Post shave balm and cologne are 2 entirely different things, one soothes the skin and another is an attractive scent.
I would go for a low fragrance balm (Nivea men/dove/kheils etc) and whatever fragrance you prefer but don't slap it on your chin.
This is very good and long lasting. I've just bought the shave soap too. Better half likes the smell too, which is rare for her to give a good comment on aftershaves. Good manly pong.

Have been using Cerruti 1881 for many years now - and is still my favourite.

After gallons of others, I've settled on Terre D'Hermes.

Givenchy Gentleman has changed little since the late 1970's, but you can still find the original in some places.
Czech & Speake.
No 88.
Expensive but i've been using the same 200ml bottle for the last three years so based on price per "splash" it's remarkable value. One small dose stays smelling all day long without being over powering.
And i get asked by both men and women what i'm wearing.
And bought a bottle Neroli last week, see how that goes.

I've just bought a bottle of creed silver mountain water lovely stuff
I prefer Aqua di Parma Capri, from the Mediterraneano collection. It's a very fresh, light & citrusy unisex fragrance.

My sister can get a heavy discount on Tom Ford stuff which has allowed me to try a few of them. I still have tobacco vanille, I'm not a fan but it's ok in winter.
Neroli Portofino is my favourite although I don't have a bottle. Aqua Di Parma is superb stuff but I cannot afford it!
Clinique Happy always used to be a favourite but with it being citrus it doesn't last long at all. Love the smell though!
My top 3 aftershaves:
1) Chanel Allure Sport
2) Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Acqua
3) Acqua Di Parma Colonia
Has anyone tried any of the Roja scents? They are crazy expensive!
TBH this thread may as well have been titled 'Wristwatches - Any Favourites?' given the diversity of replies it has predictably received...
I would have a read below or one of the many similar sites. Get down to your local department store and get sniffing for each category, see what appeals. It is then just a case of refining what you like through multiple sniff/sample tests...

I did this a while back and there were certain categories that I instantly disliked or didn't think suited me (I don't want to smell of leather/spice/sweat but YMMV!). It is a start but nobody can predict what smells you'll like anymore than they can tell you what watch to wear.
Having visited the UAE mire thnq a few times, I'm becoming more interested in the oud based fragrances, but they're very heavy and VERY expensive.
Tom Ford and Jo Malone are my current favourites.
Pull yourselves together.
This is what the discerning gent applies post shave & pre-engagement with any challenge including conversations with the laydeez.
My go to's are:
Creed Aventus - for evenings out
Dior Homme - for evenings out
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver - Great daytime scent
Tommy Hilfiger Tommy - Summertime scent
